hard drive problems

i have a maxtor 40gig, harddrive out of a dvr.I need to find out how to remove the partision that's on it and repartision it to run in a computer?

 

It should be a IDE or Sata. You should be able to hook it up to your computer and run a free tool called gparted which can be found here

I would disconnect all other hard drives to avoid a mistake and delete data off your main drive.

EDIT:

Sorry didn't see you want to run it on a pc. With gparted delete all the partitions and boot your os. It should see the drive and you will be able to install your os.

 

well my computer see's the drive in the bio's but under my computer it isn't showing up.all i want to do is like f-disk it and start over with a fresh copy of xp,pro.the drive is an ide maxtor 40gig, fireball 3 ata/133

 

Do you any other drivers in the computer?

 

yes a 37.5 westerndigital and a cd burner and a dvd burner.the westerndigital is a sata and the computer is set up to run both.

 

So you want to install windows xp on the drive?

 

yes i want to install xp,pro on it and use it in a computer.and it's giving me all kind's of headack's.once you think you'v removed all the partisions and go to reinstall them i get an error like cant read or wrong os on drive or wrong filing system on drive.
