hard drive sapce issues

hey guys

ive got a 20gb hard drive ( real size is 18.6gb ) now its trying to tell me i only have 12mb of space left therers only 5 folders on that drive Windows program files docs and settings and 2 other folders all thoes folders added together only add up to 9GB where the hell could the other 9GB have gone ??

 

I'd do run Ccleaner (avalible here on mg), do a degrament, then see were you're sitting at.

 

Something similar happened to me when I ran Microsoft Bootvis and it never stopped creating its trace file and the log was growing out of control. Look in C > Windows > Wbem > logs for anything larger than a few mb (the trace file is a WMI.LOG I believe). If thats your problem I have other information on how to stop it from growing.

 

hey guys thanks for the replies ok ive un ccleaner and that freed up a little and ive found out my hard drive has been lieing to me and i managed to find some temp files adding up to 4 gig so go rid of them so now i have 4gig worth of free space wich is better than nothing lol. and thanks to appz but i dont use bootvis but thanks ill keep that one in mind if i ever do.

There are programs that will examine your hard drive and then show you a graphical depiction of used hard drive space (space monger). That can often help you find anthing large that you don't need or don't want anymore. For instance if you convert avi's to dvd or similar with Nero, it has temp files it makes but doesn't delete, it leaves that up to you. They're stored in your documents under (your name > my documents > nero express). ConvertXtoDvd does the same thing.
