   I've used spinrite 6 and PC Certify (though certify has been kinda quick on diagnosing hard drive failure) I was just wonder what other reliable bootable hard drive diagnostic utilities there were.

   as ASUS said HD maker have their own tools, just depends whos HD you have but you should be able to find the apropriate tool in this list http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads8.html
