Hard drive troubles.....

I have a 300GB Seagate IDE hard drive. I bought it a couple months ago. I used seagate's program to format and partition it. I partitioned it to 135GB so that windows could initially recognize it. I installed "windows xp pro sp2" and then I used partition magic to make the partition at the full 300GB. It worked fine for a little while, but then I started to get "stop errors". I fixed most of them, but I still get one very often (0x0000008e). It's really annoying. I read that it can sometimes be from a corrupt thing on my hard drive. I ran the seatools and it said that there were some errors on my hard drive. I figured that could be the reason for all of the errors. I ran checkdisk, but that error still was coming up. I can't even run a full sytem scan with norton antivirus 2006. I ran norton utilities 2005 and my computer ran a little more stable, but I got that error message again. I need to know if my hard drive's file system could be damaged, and if there's a good tool out there that can fix NTFS. Partition magic might have done my hard drive in.... Thanks....

 

Just to tell you some info why did you resize your harddisk to 135 in the first place because you did install XP pro services pack 2 you did not need to do this .....


XP basic = harddisk below 137 GIGS
XP SP1 = harddisk below 300 GIGS
XP SP2 = harddisk unlimited.......

 

Well I asn't aware of this....
So since the newest version of XP Pro comes with SP2....
I can just size it however I want to?
And since I didn't do that....
Could I have messed it up?
Should I reformat it and reinstall windows?
Or...
Is there a program out there that will fix it?
