I have been having some trouble with an old computer my dad uses. It has 2 hard drives. 4GB, 10GB. when ever we move files around or copy, and past things, the system locks up, and we have to restart.

Is there any program that can do a hardcore scan for errors on the drives? I have done virus, ect, but i want somthing that could detect something physicaly wrong with it.

try using scandisk (in windows) with low-level checking... it scans the whole platter for hardware problems...
