I have two SATA 1.5 TB WD drives.
One Caviar Green the other Caviar Black
I would eventually like to set them up as a RAID.

But first I need to access the WD Green (WD15EADS)
The Green was have taken out of a 'My Book',
I then tried to install it in my PC using a hot swap bay,
(the 'Black' works) it does not appear in 'This PC' > 'Devices & Drives'.

I could try to hook it internal if that might work, Don't know?

Or does it have to be "re-programmed" to use SATA instead of mini usb ??

    Is this even possible?

    Thank You!

    You needn't program it.
Did you try formatting it via Windows?

If the WD Green was taken from a NAS, it will be formatted in xfs or ext3, which are unsupported by Windows. Try MiniTool Partition Wizard to see if you can format it to something Windows recognizes. If that doesn't work and you have a PC running some version of Linux, you may be able to access it and format it to a Windows supported file format. You can use Puppy Linux, a Linux operating system which boots and runs from a USB drive or CD/DVD, if you don't.

I connected the Green drive internally. I still have no way of accessing it!

It does not show up in 'My Comp'. ('This PC')

    Running Win10

    OK,
I now have the WD Green (My Book) connected via the piggy backed pcb board.
Which connects directly to the 'Green's' SATA ports.
A mini-USB and wall wort for power connect directly to board.

With this drive set up this way, it is recognized by PC and I can access it like normal.

So, the question becomes; What do I have to do to this drive to make it an internal drive, working directly from SATA cables ??

I would like to have this drive installed and working before I go the format route if possible.

If it is not formatted in a way Windows can read, you will need to format the drive so it can whether you like it or not.

    Thank You 'Just Playin'

Both drives are formatted and ready for the RAID1 array.

I start another thread for that
