Hi. Some time ago I deleted a file that I did not recognize. Since that time, every time that I turn on my computer (Windows XP Pro SP3), I am getting a message that the Hardware Manager found a new hardware and can not install it as it does not find a file "tpmddl.dll" . Using deleted files recovery software that I have, I recovered this file, but it did not help.
Checking the list of System devices, I saw an "unknown Device" with a yellow mark. During various attempts to correct the problem this listing dissapeared, but I am still getting this message about a new hardware device.
How do I fix this annoying problem.
    Thanks, Joseph.

    Hi

As you have not mentioned the previous things you have attempted to resolve this, sorry if this is a repeat, as the dll is a Trusted Platform Module and likely will be part of hardware recognition.

Open a Command Prompt (CMD) and type sfc /scannow (there is a space between s and /) and hit enter, you may need the Windows XP disk in the drive.

or if you have recovered the file, it needs to go into C:\Windows\system32\ (which is likely the location the error is telling you, if its different then please let us know what path it is?) Once copied and pasted into system32 click Start > Run and type regsvr32 tpmdll.dll and hit enter to re-register the file and reboot.

Hi. Thanks for the fast response.
Question: Do I type "sfc /scannow" as shown, with a space between c and / , or as explained in text: (there is a space between s and /) ?
I tried to use my Windows XP disk, but was unsuccessfull, maybe because the disk is vesion SP2 and the computer was updated to SP3. The message said "different versions".
    Thanks, Joseph.

    sfc /scannow

Though, it probably would be nice to use a xp sp3 cd, instead of the sp2 cd. That is if it even asks for the cd.

It shouldn't matter if you use your original installation CD, even if it's SP1, as service packs should automatically update your i386 folder as they install. But if for some reason you don't have an i386 folder then you may need a CD with your current service pack status - which might be a bit of a problem!
