hardware or driver issue(human?)

I've been having some serious issues. I don't know whether it's hardware or driver (possibly bios) problems. I'm running an AMD XP Athlon 3400+ on an ASUS board. I'm having system stability (compatability) problems with SATA HD raptor but newly, i've had a problem where I can't execute a disk defragment or error check . I get an error that says "cannot boot with the disk check" (during blue screen at startup)....pc still boots but with strange (to me) new errors.ive tried restoring.blah blah. ive updatated every driver i know of that can be updated, flashed my BIOS.....lah de dah, i'm missing somthing and i dont know what, help....this is a month now. if needed, let me know a good sys snapshot to use to show more info..

is the RAPTOR your windows drive? if so, did you load the correct SATA drivers during windows install? if you load generic drivers, you are very likely to run into instability.
