Hardware problem?

Hi,

My computer recently has been momentarily freezing for a few seconds every 5 minutes or so.

I thought it might be problems with my windows install. I ran Advanced SystemCare, i defragmented the HD, removed all malware, ran cCleaner, scanned for viruses with Avast...nothing helped so i decided to reformat the hard drive.

After reformatting, the problem still persists. When i turn on the computer i get about 30 minutes of usage before it starts momentarily freezing. I monitor the hardware temperatures using Smart Guardian (came with Motherboard driver disk) and catalyst control center. According to Smart Guardian, my CPU never gets above about 30 celcius, however no matter how fast the CPU fan is going, the program shows a fan speed of 0 rpm. Catalyst control center shows that neither video card gets above 40 celcuis.

Also of note, sometimes when the computer freezes, the mouse can still move on the screen.

My computer is as follows:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP2
Hard Drive: Western Digital 500GB
RAM: 8GB CORSAIR DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Video Card: 2x HIS Hightech Radeon HD 2600XT
Processor: AMD Phenom 9550 Agena 2.2GHz Socket AM2+ Quad-Core
Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS

Most of what i use my computer for is video games and movies...which i can't really do either when the computer keeps momentarily freezing.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Any help would be appreciated.

This is an update just in case anybody else is having the same problems i was.

I ran Western Digital's "Data Lifeguard Diagnostics", Hot CPU Tester Pro, and Memtest 86+. All of them reported 0 errors, however after running these 3 programs my computer seems to be working fine.
