    Dear MajorGeeks

Recently I have been having numerous problems with two devices under “Device Manager” which are:

    1. SCSI and RAID Controllers
o A04QJ554 (Note this number changes after every restart) IDE Controller
    2. Sound, video and game controllers
    o Microsoft Kernel DLS Synthesizer

I don’t use RAID and I still have sound so I do not know why both these devices have a yellow exclamation mark next to them. If I go to properties on these devices they both come up with the same error “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)”.

Also when I try to update the Driver for the SCSI and RAID Controller (it says the driver is not found, also for this device the driver provider is unknown) and the Kernel DLS (it says the wizard cannot find a better match for the hardware installed) nothing updates/happens.

Could you please answer the following for me:

    1. What exactly is SCSI and DSL?
    2. How can I fix these devices?
    3. Can you tell me how this happened to these devices?
    4. Also do you recommend I use a program to clean your registry such as registry mechanic? If so please recommend registry cleaners that are free?

    Additional Information

I found the problem with the SCSI and RAID controllers when I was using Nero (I have now uninstalled it)
My computer has no virus, I use an up – to – date version of:

    • AVG free
    • IOrbit (360 Security and Advance SystemCare)
    • CCleaner

    System Configuration:

    Intel Core2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20 GHZ
    4 GB Transcend RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series
    Windows XP Professional SP3
    Intel Motherboard DG33FB
    2 Hard Drives 160GB and 300GB

    Regards

First if your not having problems I wouldn't bother with them.

1.SCSI is a computer interface similar to IDE used for hard driver

DSL is part of this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa939386(WinEmbedded.5).aspx

2.DSL should have been installed with your operating system or service pack 2,if you have an xp installation disk you can try letting it search the disk for the driver there.

Go to the manufacturer website of your motherboard and install the latest sound card driver and SCSI and RAID controller driver.

3.Compatible drivers probably weren't found on the OS disk at install.

    4.No I don't use them.
