I am building a computer for my Ex Girlfreind, And I am currently having two hardware problems.

The first one is the secondary internal hardrive. It is correctly hooked up with the jumpers in the right place, and it is even showing up in the bios on startup correctly as an IDE slave, but when i boot up windows, It does now show up in "My Computer".

Second problem is with the motherboard. I got it as a handme down part along with the processor and do not have a cd with the Drivers. If there is a program or site that can tell me either, what drivers I need, or what motherboard it is so i can search for the drivers, please let me know.

The hardrive is the bigger problem right now because the main is only 13GB and I need the second one to install all the games on.

    Any help would be apreciated

ok, I can see the drive and access it in "my computer" but when I try to install anything to It, I get an error saying "Error 1303. The installation has insufficient Privileges to access the directory: E:\Public. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."

Any idea on what to do now?

Ok try this WARNING LONG POST

. Log in as an administrator.

    2. If you use Windows XP Pro, disable simple file sharing (if you use Windows 2000, this step is not necessary):

    a. Choose Start > My Computer.

    b. Choose Tools > Folder Options, and then click the View tab.

    c. In the Advanced Settings, deselect Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended), and click OK.

    3. In Windows Explorer, open the Documents And Settings folder.

    4. Right-click the All Users folder, and then choose Properties.

    5. Click the Security tab.

    6. Select Administrators in the User list. If Full Control is not selected in the Permissions list, change the access control level to Full Control. (For more information on how to modify access control levels, see the Microsoft documentation.)

    7. Click Advanced, and select Replace Permission Entries On All Child Objects With Entries Shown Here That Apply To Child Objects (Windows XP Pro ) or Reset Permissions On All Child Objects And Enable Propagation Of Inheritable Permissions (Windows 2000).

    8. Click OK, and then click Yes. Click OK to close the All Users Properties dialog box.

    9. Install Acrobat.

    10. (Windows XP Pro only) Reenable simple file sharing:

    a. Choose Start > My Computer.

    b. Choose Tools > Folder Options, and then click the View tab.

    c. In the Advanced Settings, select Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended), and click OK.

Solution 2: Change the sharing permissions, and then install Acrobat. (Windows XP Home Edition).

    1. Choose Start > Run, type %allusersprofile% in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. Right-click the Shared Documents folder, and choose Properties.

    3. Click the Sharing tab, and select Share This Folder.

    4. Click Permissions, and select Everyone in Group Or User Names.

    5. Select Allow next to Full Control in Permissions, and then click OK. (For more information on changing permissions, see Windows Help.)

    6. Click OK to close the Shared Documents Properties dialog box.

    7. Install Acrobat.

Solution 3: Use the CACLS command to assign full administrator access to the All Users folder. (Windows XP Professional and Home Edition, and 2000)

Use the CACLS command in a DOS window to manually assign full Administrator access to the Documents and Settings\All Users folder. Full administrator access allows the installer to create the files that Acrobat will need.

To use the CACLS command to manually assign access:

    1. Log in as an administrator. If you don't have administrator rights, contact your system administrator for assistance.

    2. Choose Start > Run, and then type cmd in the Open box. Click OK.

    3. Type the following commands; include quotation marks and press Return at the end of each line (also make sure to enter spaces between /T, /E, /C and /G in the third line):

    c:

    cacls "c:\Documents and Settings\All Users" /T /E /C /G administrators:F

    exit

    Important: Enter spaces between /T , /E , /C , and /G in the third line.

    4. Install Acrobat.

Solution 4: Change the sharing permissions in Safe mode, and then install Acrobat. (Windows XP Professional and Home Edition)

    To restart in Safe mode:

    1. Choose Start > Run.

    2. Type msconfig in the Open box, and click OK.

    3. Click the Boot.ini tab.

    4. Select /Safeboot and Minimal in the Boot Options and then click OK.

    5. Restart Windows.

To change permissions and install Acrobat:

    1. Choose Start > Run.

    2. Type %allusersprofile% in the Open box, and click OK.

    3. Right-click the Shared Documents folder, and choose Properties.

    4. Click the Security tab.

    5. Select Everyone in Group Or User Names, and then select Allow next to Full Control in the Permissions. (For more information on changing permissions, see Windows Help.)

    6. Click Advanced, and select Replace Permission Entries On All Child Objects With Entries Shown Here That Apply To Child Objects.

    7. Click OK, click Yes, and then click OK to close the Shared Documents Properties dialog box.

    8. Choose Start > Run.

    9. Type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.

    10. In the General tab, select Normal Startup - Load All Device Drivers And Services, and then click OK.

ok, i tried doing it the way with the cmd commands, but when i entered the command i got this error: "The Cacls command can be run only on disk drives that use the NTFS file system."

now, even i know i could simply reformat the drive using the NTFS system, BUT, I already did that via the disk management thing you showed me earlier.

I tired doing it other ways, but i was limited to the one that worked with Home, but even then, the instructions such as "select Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)", there was no option to do so.

    so now what?
