Hardware Problems?

Recently one of my computers had been starting to slow down. The first thing I did was scan it with my array of anti-malware software, defraged it, chkdsk, etc. That didn't fix it. Since I didn't have many files to back up I decided to just do a fresh install of the Windows XP. Even with a fresh install I was having problems, so I looked towards a hardware issue.

I scanned the hard drive with Seatools and chkdsk. I scanned the memory with Windows Memory Diagnostics and memtest86. Everything checked out. I put the hard drive into another computer just to make sure it was working fine, and it does. I've been able to rule out the hard drive as a problem.

Right now I don't want to rule out the memory (which is only one 1GB stick) or any other hardware. The computer being slow happens right away so I know it isn't overheating. No new hardware has been attached to it. Everything is exactly the same as it has been for the past few years.

My question is, what else could be causing this problem? Failing RAM that these diagnostics tools aren't detecting? Failing CPU? PSU? MoBo?

Well, don't overlook overheating just because it slows right off. What hardware are we talking about here? Just for giggles, give it a good cleaning, blow all the dust out. What specifically is slow?

Its a Lenovo ThinkCentre, with all the standard hardware. The PC is never used for anything more than browsing the internet, reading files, etc.

The inside is nice and clean so I know dust isn't an issue. XP is slow. I can't do an installation of software and browse the internet at the same time. As a matter of fact, I was trying to install Office and it wouldn't even install, I'd just get a blue screen. That's what prompted me to test the HDD on another PC. The installation worked perfectly on their.

Make sure the MOBO&CPU heatsinks are making good contact. You could try to remove them anyway and remount them with thermal grease.

0x000000F4 then a whole bunch of stuff inside the (). I did a search for the entire error code and nothing came up. 0x000000F4 brought up a some results but nothing seems to work.

You read my mind. I'm actually about to do that right now. Thanks, I'll post my results.

Well the new thermal paste is on and the PC is still extremely slow. I plan on checking the PSU's voltage next and then maybe buying new RAM. I welcome anymore ideas.
