I have a friend named Guido...

Sounds like a derogatory term for an Italian, but I could be wrong. Define "tristate", there are several places where three states come together. :)

It IS a derogatory term for an Italian. I never heard it in Chicago (Chicago has a LOT of Italians), but I hear it used around Memphis. Mostly by rednecks (another derogatory term ;))

Guido is a derogatory term for any person of italian decent. This person usually wears lots of gold chains, wears wife beaters, slicked back hair and typically drives a chevy camaro, corvette, nova, chevelle, monty carlo, 69 impala, or a ford mustang 5.0.

The guido typically has some sort of rain forest for chest hair, wears gold nugget rings the size of dice and can often be seen driving around in their vehicles with their other guido friends for extended periods of time , (often in a circular pattern ) to see if they can pick- up the ladies. The guido's mating call is "C'mon, les go do it" which is generally followed by "Go'on, gitatta'eer" if successful or some lesbian remark if unsuccessful.

    Never touch the guido's car.

Kodo is accurate, but I wouldn't call it a derogatory term. Its about attitude -you're either a Giudo or not.

Characterizing all Guido's as wifebeaters is derogatory and somewhat insulting. Some of the nicest guys I know are Guidos and would give their shirts off their back for friend or stranger.

Were - wears...too close when you're getting emotional. Phew and here I thought this was going to turn into another headed thread. Thanks for clearing that up.

The driving in a circular pattern - its because you can't make left turns onto 86th street.

Also Guido's had to have some sort of playboy emblem on their car and person. Guidettes had their hair teased to the sky.

In the UK we call them fairweather bikers.

Is a term or name derogatory in itself? Or is it that we perceive it to be therefore it becomes so? I don't have a problem with being called "limey"...infact my step-grandkids call me "Grandma Limey" in fun. I know chatrooms where anyone using the word "yank" finds it is auto-changed to "american". How far do you take political correctness? If you want to be offended then you probably will be IMHO :)
