On the 5th May i went to Technet and downloaded windows 7RC with both my PCs, one was downloading the 32bit version and the other the 64bit.
The 64 bit was done in a very short time but for some reason the 32bit reached 99% and stalled, so i left it alone for about 30min but it got no further, I then shut down the download and like a fool i double clicked the file just to see if it was there.
Over the next few hour the PC started to misbehave (not closing applications or stalling when loading web pages) so i started running some anti virus applications and Spybot found this Trojan-Downloader.Matcash

I have not found any application that can get rid of it so far and all i have been able to do is eliminate programs one at a time to see if it is gone.

It has locked me out of system restore also it will not let the PC boot from disk for a full reformat ( i tried that after about 4 hours).

I will not say that Technet did this but it is such a coincidence and i have not downloaded from any other source.

I sent an E Mail to the Technet site but have heard nothing back as of yet.

I had seen the warnings over pirate copies of RC7 and did not venture in there.

This is one SOB of a trojan it spreads like wild fire, it was stupid of me to leave the 2 PCs connected but at the time i did not know what it was and now i have two trashed systems.
I have managed to get one back up and running but i still can not boot from disk?
I have Windows 7 on the second hard disk in the PC i have running so maybe i will use that to kill the other system and start over.

    Hi Bill

Not trying to defend TechNet, but if this did come off technet then the internet would be awash with others saying same thing and more so in the private microsoft newsgroups as most on them have technet/msdn subscriptions and with paid accounts are very vocal if somethings amiss, I downloaded the technet version and was fine for me as a test to try and re-create this so that if I found anything I could go through my channels to report this.

Do try and download it again so a fresh copy Bill and if you get the same issue with malware, let me know and I will escalate it via my route.

I fully understand what you are saying David and that is why i started this post, to see if anyone else had the same thing.
I trust Technet 100% and found it hard to believe the problem came from them.
I waited for the 5th just to be sure i got a good copy (i have it now) but it was so strange that the download hung at 99%?
I don't know if they use mirror sites or if there was another way this SOB got into my PC all i know is that i have had a traumatic 4 days trying to get rid of all the rubbish.

I like the new OS, it just takes a bit of learning but i am getting the hang of it and it's great!! but then i am a Vista fan.

im just wondering if you googled the download site, and happened onto a site that looked like technet? I just downloaded win7 64bit from there and it was fine.
