Hey, what colour is the TAB can now?

Last time I drank it, it was blue denim with studs.

I do remember a pinky purple colour too.

so when the new coke was introduced did it have corn syrup in it or cane sugar

even when coke changed back to original coke i guess they decided to keep the corn syrup right

coke just doesnt taste right but whats funny is i do like the vanilla coke and the cherry coke and the new black cherry vannila coke probubly because the new flavors cover up the regular bad coke taste

how do i get a hold of the company and request that they use cane sugar again

oh and do they have mexican coke in stores and if they do whats it called does it say coke and made in mexico

Wish I could still buy it here.

I like it even better than Coke.

It is owned by Coke I think, or at least used to be.

No sugar in it though. It is "the original diet coke", cokes first attempt at a diet cola IIRc and uses aspartame instead of sugar/corn syrup.

Only about 5 calories though, and it just tastes alot better than all the diet colas out these days.

I love seeing people ordering a couple of Big Macs with a Diet Coke. :)

Do they really think that will stop them from getting fat?

Well, when I have no choice but to eat at a McD's, that what I get. Not because I'm worried about getting fat (I'm not), but that I cannot stand the taste of regular Coke, no matter what formula they use.

A good way to combat getting fat is to start by getting out of the chair ;)

When they introduced New Coke in the early 80s, they were met with such loud public outcry that they "changed back", or rather "offered both". But I am sure that at that point they changed from suger to corn syrup, for everytime after that, when I had a Coke Classic, it never tasted like the sweet burning refreshing drink I enjoyed as a kid. Now, rarely, a can of Coke will do it for me, but mostly they taste like garbage.

Go to a Mexican Grocery store (we have Del Ray here in Chicago) and look for hecho en Mexico in an old fashioned glass bottle, the way Coke was meant to be packaged. Or buy some here
Notice the bottle of pure cane syrup on the bottom right corner. I want some of that! :)

Nah, this is an underground, Black Market kind of thing! :D You have to go to a Mexican Grocery store. If you read those articles that Asus posted, you'll see that they smuggle the good stuff up from Mexico, and The Coca Cola Bottling company is upset about it. What city do you live in?

You should be able to find a grocery store there that sells the stuff. It is better, that's for sure, so good luck to you.
Man, after all this, I'm going to go to Del Ray tomorrow and get some Mexican Coke. :)
I'll be right back gotta go do something, and then I'll answer your question about buying online, unless someone beats me to it! :)

Okay, go to the website, and then scroll down to the picture that has "Inca Kola and Other Latin American Soft Drinks" under it, click on that, then click on "Coca Cola 11.5 oz." then click on the basket that is right next to the Qty box. This will add the item to your "basket". Some websites will have a picture of a shopping cart, others will say "add to cart" or whatever. Change the number of items from 1 to whatever your heart desires, and then add to cart. This will bring up this window. You now have 3 options: You can keep shopping, check out, (at which time you will fill out an address form, credit card info, etc) or change the number you want to buy. You can change the number at anytime, even change it to the number 0 if you decide you don't want to buy it, and then hit the button that says "update qty". If you keep shopping, you will follow the same steps, but when you come back to your "shopping cart" your previous items will still be there, and you can then add more items, subtract items, etc.
Proceed to "checkout". I think the rest is self explanatory. Fill out your name, address, etc, choose your shipping method (ground is cheapest, next day air is more expensive, etc) continue to hit the "continue" buttons and follow the instructions. There may be options to send in a check if you don't have a credit card. Just follow the instructions, and you'll be set.
Hope this wasn't too detailed, just thought I'd cover it all! :)

Whoa, Moumantai...just a sec. Do you have a Fiesta grocery store near you? I saw this thread earlier, didn't read it and had to go shopping anyway, so I checked at my local Fiesta here in Austin. They have the coke from Mexico here. I thought they must since they have Ting soda from Jamaica, and lots of other cool stuff from Mexico. The glass bottle is in Spanish, but the paper sticker gives the ingredients, including sugar. The bottle is 335ml. The sticker says 12oz. The price is $1.09.

One of the clerks told me they usually have another size as well, but that the store was having a hard time getting it and keeping the other in stock because of the hurricane destroying so much of the sugar crops.

Haven't read through everything yet, but has anyone mentioned that the Dr Pepper bottler in Dublin, Texas--which is the oldest bottler in the U.S.--is still the only one making Dr. Pepper with sugar. Last time I was through there, I was told the wouldn't be able to do it much longer. Dr Pepper's bottler contracts allow more independence than the Coke contracts.

Hi! I just looked up Fiesta on Google. This is the one I mean: http://www.fiestamart.com/

They're in Austin, Fort Worth/Dallas, Houston and Waco. I've only been to the one in Austin, but it is a huge supermarket, larger than the HEBs here. It caters primarily to the Mexican population here, so in addition to all the regular grocery items, they carry foods from Mexico.

Sorry they're not near you. I just rushed off the post in case you had one up there. Didn't think to Google it. Well, don't know how far you are from Dallas/Fort Worth...Probably only half a day's drive. (Gee, isn't there one of these smilies for being embarrassed?)

Guess the internet is the way to go for your order. Best hunting to you!

Wow, there's a bunch up there.

Go to that page at: http://www.fiestamart.com/
Then click on the word "Locations" on the left Then click on Dallas/Fort Worth. There are 6 in Dallas, 3 in Fort Worth, 1 in Garland, 1 in Plano, 1 in Arlington, 1 in Forest Hill.

Each one has a clickable link showing a map. They also have the phone numbers so you can call and find out if they carry it. I'd especially do that since the clerk said they were have a bit of difficulty getting them because of the hurricane.

    Code:

Yes, everything's far away here, not like Sidney. :) It's a tad more like living in the center of Australia, but with more computers and fewer aborigines. :) Gee, I didn't know we could look so exotic...

I'd drive to the end of the earth for My Little Ponies, but not for Coke.

What I would love is a Coke machine, the syrup ones like they have at McDonalds etc.

Or even better, a slurpee machine like 7/11.

Okay, finally gave the thread the sloppy, but full read. Clearly this thread needs the link to the Dublin, Texas bottler of Dr Pepper--the ooooooldest bottler of Dr Pepper in the U.S.: http://www.dublindrpepper.com/

Also the only one to still use sugar. And for the thoroughly informed citizen:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr_Pepper

    Code:
    Phantom points out:
There are also other lovely components such as phosphoric acid contained within. The reason so much sweetener is necessary, whether it be from cane sugar, cornsyrup, or artificial, is that the syrups used to make Coke and other soft drinks are so putrid, a 350ml can of Coke needs the equivalent of one quater of a cup of sugar to make it drinkable. Drinks such as Fanta, require the equivalent of half a cup of sugar to make it drinkable. Then of course, they need dosing with CO2 and refrigerated, or else they are foul tasting, again.
You know, there's an old remedy for removing corrosion around a car battery by pouring a can of coke on the top. then you can sit back and watch the coke bubble around and remove the corrosion. Too cool.

heres the email i got back from the coke website

Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company, We appreciate your interest in our brands.

As you may know, it is left to the discretion of each bottler of Coca-Cola to choose whether the product will be sweetened with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), sucrose, or a combination of the two. This decision is typically based on availability and cost. Different consumers perceive taste in very different ways. It is, however, possible for the same soft drink to vary slightly in taste due to such factors as the temperature at which it is consumed, the foods with which it is consumed, or the condition of storage of the product prior to consumption. Also, some carbonation can be lost during pouring and/or serving.

If you would like to contact your local bottling company, their telephone number is: (800) 257-2653.

We hope this information is helpful. Please be assured your comments have been shared appropriately. If you have additional questions or comments, please visit our website again.

    Typical corporate crap.

I can't see why they cannot produce the same cola, regardless of the "bottler" or country.

Follow the recipe, instead of blaming temperature or storage.

I'm glad Coke tastes the same here. :)

    So Coca-Cola says:
    Code:
As you may know, it is left to the discretion of each bottler of Coca-Cola to choose whether the product will be sweetened with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), sucrose, or a combination of the two. This decision is typically based on availability and cost.
*Uh, and "As you may know", any pressures, blackmails and complications in our contracts with our bottlers.*

The contracts between Coke and its bottlers is different from the setup with the Dr Pepper bottlers, which is why the one in Dublin, Texas is able to use sugar in the formulation.

Wish Coke would give it up. They make more from selling their bottled tap water (oh, excuse me, purified tap water) than from their soda lines now anyway.

BTW, Moumantai, when you go to Fiesta, ask for the coke you want. It will be in with the international or ethnic food section. Not down in the regular soda aisle.

Yup, the "secret formula" for Coke has been posted around for quite some time. Of course there is no Coca in it any more (what a shame!) and precious little Cola nut either. The flavor is mainly due to citrus oils and caramel (burnt sugar). That's why what Steev wrote on the first page is true.

Messing around with the ratio of HF Corn Syrup to real sugar will change the taste. Probably had to cut back on the real thing again - you know, a tenth of a cent a can here, a tenth of a cent a can there, and pretty soon it adds up to real money... ;) If the damn fed govt would quit subsidizing US cane growers, the sweetener in most sodas could be mostly the real thing as God intended!

On the nutrition statement take Trans fat for example, anything under 1 gram per serving can be stated as 0 (and I see lots of the typical anti-humanists getting their panties in a bunch over that). Probably any amount of calories less than ten can be stated as 0.

Old topic, But...I just got back from Los Angeles and found something interesting. In my hotel room mini-bar, the coke ingredients said: "high fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose."

And it tasted like Coke--um, you know, the real thing. So, okay, interesting, but I was sceptical with the "and/or". Seems like an interestingly ambiguous label change

Then on the plane back, I asked for a Coke and read the can. Ingredient: "high fructose corn syrup" -- no mention of sucrose. And it tasted as yucky as the recent Cokes I've had generally. Corn syrup has a clingy taste.

In both cases I had the Coke before looking at the can. What gives? If this is a California thing, unfair! :)

(I've now had more Coke between the two bottles from Mexico and the two between LA and here than I've had in several years. You guys are a bad influence. :p )

ya know their lying to us coke hasnt been the real thing for years now cause they took out the sugar and unless they take out the corn syrup and use sugar again it will never be the real thing

  44. Gektumi

    Gektumi Private First Class

Well, that's what's odd. The one I got from the refridgerator in the mini-bar did taste different. That's why I looked at the can. When it said "and/or", my response was --oh, sure, just say that and keep serving the corn syrup. Just thought it was strange that it tasted good, although not as good as the ones from Fiesta. :) Viva la Fiesta! Viva los geeks importantes! :)

Then I got a Coke on the plane to see if they had the same labeling. The taste really was for yuk. Maybe I'm self-deluded about the taste, but why the difference in the labeling? Well, besides the fact that Californians pay more attention to ingredients and might be persuaded by an "and/or"?

I drank the hotel can in the airport with my hotel sandwich (not the cookies from the mini-bar at least!) so I didn't have a chance to check around LA or ask anyone if this is a Coke deal there...I'll email around when I get ambitious.

It could be I really don't drink cokes much because I don't like the taste of the stuff with corn syrup. This was probably a great thing for me because I just stopped and went on to more iced tea and eventually spring water. :) Something about the semi-acid (?) bit of Coke that I like. :)

From the photos of LA Gektumi posted, it looks just like the Gold Coast and Surfer's Paradise in Queensland.

I hate places like that. Queensland is full of places that have the biggest pineapple, the biggest prawn etc, and the Gold Coast is just one big tourist strip.

Alright to visit for 10 mins, but that's it.

Back to Coke, we're lucky here. I haven't noticed any difference in the taste.

It'll probably happen though, as soon as they find a cheaper ingredient as a substitute.
