have multiply problems, seems to be from update...

I believe these problems started from a windows 7 update, but I am not sure. I am running Wnidows 7 32 bit on toshiba satellite pro. My firewall page says its not running recommend settings, I ckick on reset to recommended settings and window pops up and says wins fw caht change some of its settings. When I go to firewall page its says the snap-in did not load. Also I go to update page and it tells me I have no updates installed EVER. Not true. I have ran Avast pre boot scan-nothing, superantispyware scan-just cookies,Malwarebytes antimalware scan-nothing. Avast did tell me that its web shield and network shield were not on, but i cant turn them back on. I cannot access the internet, so I didnt know if thats why avast shields. Research this problem on net and same symtoms were all caused by wins 7 update (KB976098). I dont have clue what this is. Also I have no more restore points I even tried to use system image I made, the dvd player doesnt work anymore either ,so I canrt even re-install wins 7. Tried to burn dvd to check player and thats how I know its messed up. Tells me it cant format ANY disc I put in, when it has formatted these same discs before. I have changed ownership of things and permissions. Firewall tells me access denined. I have tried everything I know to do, or have read researching. I gave and was willing to just reinstall, but I cant do that. Sorry didnt know where to put this thread, from reading I am thinking its update problem. Do I throw my harddrive away. Also computer wont shutdown anymore. Not on its own. Someone help plz. Thank you in advance any and all info is greatly apperciated

 

Still working on this but, I just went through this a week ago with a customer o my brothers, and after disk checks and system checks,,the HDD just failed.
Update KB976098 is a daylight savings time and time zone change tool update.

 

Thanks Nick T, DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT UPDATE WAS. mAN FOR SUCH A SIMPLE UPDATE SURE CAUSED HAVOC. kNOWING THAT i AM STARTING TO SECOND GUESS UPDATE IS ALL THAT IS WRONG? tHOUGHTS? i WILL BE SURE AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. uSING OLD PC WITH 98,LOL, SO GOES WITHOUT SAYING i WALK AWAY ALOT AND COOL OFF. CANT BELIEVE WE EVER HAD SUCH PATIENCE WITH COMPUTERS. i GOT SPOILED. reALLY APPERCIATE YOUR INPUT, SEEMS LIKE NO ONE ON HERE CARES TO HELP.

I don't think people don't care, rather that your problems sound like the ultimate computer nightmare. Do you have an old harddrive that could be hooked up to your computer to see if your dvd burner works with that? Can you use a flashdrive? Do you have a boot disk that would work on a different harddrive? If you could get any harddrive to work, you might be able to hook up your current harddrive as a second harddrive to see if it shows up at all as existing.

 

Norgates, No extra harddrive, I am going to get flashdrive today. Not real sure how to use to help me . If you have time to advise me in how to utilize this component to help, would be greatly apperciated. Thank you for reponsing, I am just getting so frustrated with Win 7, I never even had this many problems with Vista, lol. I do really apperciate your time and advise.

 

I suggest you try a usb stick to sabe anything you value, as the dvd will not burn.
For Toshiba recovery, usually works on most
Press the zero button as the logo appears on startup,(no discs in dvd rom) nor usb sticks attached.
