Um, my disk space is slowly decresing while im online, and while playing online games like Halo, and Counter Strike my connection is a lot slower than usual. The only thing i can think is i downloaded counter strike(or the steam program at least) and since then I've noticed im slowly losing disk space. Maybe its just me. The only things Ive recently installed was Counter Strike,, Call of Duty(i only play offline), and those anti-virus programs u recomended.

I just dont know what is goin on LOL.

Just wondering if u had some imput

Oh and i just got rid of a bunch a viruses from my comp prior to this. bjgarrick helped me get rid of them, but when i told him about this he said go to u guys.

    THNXS

How much space are you loosing?

Do you have either any Norton utilities or p2p software on your PC?

Have you deleted the contents of your temp folder as many installs use that to store install files to first... do apps do delete there temp files some dont.

I have Steam based games and dont see any HD space missing.

uhh so what do u want me to do?

I have an anti-virus program(antivirus personal), spyware blaster, spybot, ccleaner, kill2me, ad-ware, and hijack this. umm i dont think these are issue. I went from 4.65GB to about 3.88GB in like a few days. Is it because when u download a new map off counter srtike it takes up space? If it is this would make me feel a lot better.

I did delete some of my temporary files and internet files, but what do u want me to do otherwise?

Thnxs for ur time, Im just sick worring about spy ware and worms getting into my comp. Ive doen several scans and they all say its clean.

    Thnxs again

I also have 2 more questions

1-How come with the star wars jedi knight, jedi outkast it disables my cd drives. What im trying to say is when its installed after a while I loose all functions of my dvd drive and cd drive depending on which drive its in. even after i take it out and reboot my comp it still is missing in the my computer folder. The only way to get my drivers to be recognized is by deleting this game and unplugging my disk drives from the comp and replugging them in. This was awhile ago and I was just curious why this happened.

2-How come if i try to download songs from like http://www.purevolume.com it wont download. I think this is kind of odd because I could before but now I cant anymore.

Just a few more burdens on you, but thnxs a lot

No they are not an issue, just need to know if you had either Norton which has a protected wastebin that eats HD space up or any file sharing software (p2p / peer2peer ) which can also use up your HD space storing files/lists.

Yes everything you download or install will use HD space, maps, sounds, updates etc ( I just had a quick look at my Steam Folder size and its 4.97GB, then I went online and updated HL2, CS and HL2 Deathmatch and size of folder went to 5GB as it was updating the programs source & source engines )

Nope what you have done is fine in deleting old temp files.... one thing you could look at is the amount of space allocated for temp internet files, as I would imagine your on broadband then its quick enough not to have much space allocated to storing temp webpages, pics etc

goto Tools > Internet Options > and under Temporary Internet Files click Settings and adjust the slider to say 10mb

As you have no doubt read the guides in the spyware part of the forum and are using some of the great antispyware utilities already then your pretty well protected, however I would stress keep yourself upto date with your OS and all Antivirus/Spyware with latest updates.

    1. Dunno weird one that, only these two games are affected? At the time of lost CD/DVD useage is their anything in the Event Viewer that may hold a clue to the error?

    2. On the download link right click and save as... does that work?

Can you download ok from here at Majorgeeks.. try downloading this

Ok thnxs a lot man, this really helped! I figured I was being a little paranoid with my hardrive space being devoured. Just so much was taken without me really knowing why. LOL.

The star wars game isn't a bg issue, I haven't played it in a long while. I'll try that download u gave me for downloading stuff.

Thnxs a lot (once again) ;)
