    Hi all,

    Pc:Dell inspirion 1501 laptop amd 1.87gb ram

Os:Windows Xp pro service pack 3

    Antivirus:Nod32

    Firewall:Windows

I was just refereed over from the male-ware dept seem as my system is clean from any viruses or such.

Let me begin with the issues i have on my laptop

Lagging when typing any word i get a severe lag every letter is at least a 1 second lag especially when i am back spacing .

When trying to signoff and shut my pc down i get a systray, ctfmon, iexplorer
    error.

When removing the charger from the laptop the AC power icon is still sitting on my system tray.

When i remove the AC outlet it suppose to show a battery icon meter and it does not.

Every time i click on a icon to open a browser or prog it takes nearly a min to open.

I ran a chkdsk and defragmented still run's slow and laggy

During safe mode my pc run's hot and shuts off when using a antispyware prog like super anti spyware.

ctfmon is related to Microsoft Office. systray is the area where the clock and various icons are. I assume you mean iexplore and not iexplorer - iexplore is Internet Explorer.

Do any of the non-changing icons change if you mouse over them or try to use them? Sometimes for one reason or another, the video display isn't updating properly. A restart usually resolves that but sounds like it hasn't in your case.

Have you tried running a System File Check? That could be worth a go:
    • Press and hold the Windows key and while still holding it, press the R key - release both.
    • In the box that comes up, type this and be careful to get it right (copy and paste works well):
    sfc /scannow
    • Click on OK and then wait for it to finish - give it your XP disk if asked for it.

Also, you might try a repair of your Office installation. I can't check how to do this at the moment since my XP machine is not booting (or more accurately, it reboots repeatedly without ever finishing successfully) but if memory serves it's done like this:
    • open the Control Panel.
    • Open Add/Remove Programs.
    • Find Microsoft Office in the list. Highlight it and then click the Add/Remove button.
    • Use the wizard to run a repair.

That's all I have to offer except perhaps looking at Kelly's XP Korner to see if there is something useful there. But see what other options people come up with here first - chat-style forums are often easier for finding solutions.

And also check that the inlets aren't particularly dusty. If so, vacuum them clean. Since it's a laptop, I guess the best way of checking if the fans are going is to listen for them. Very loud or odd sounds from the fans could mean they are wearing out and need replacing.

Your keys delay may be being caused by an accessibility feature called Sticky Keys, which may have accidentally been turned on. Have a look in Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Keyboard tab and uncheck Use Filter Keys if checked.

i found the problem but need a solution

for some strange reason my battery icon disappeared and was wondering why

So i googled and searched for a work around or fix so i can get my battery icon to show back up on my task bar

Maybe update the drivers or reinstall

i went to device manager under device manager i went to batteries mind you i am on a laptop,

Under batteries i disabled Microsoft Acpi-compliant control method battery and whala my laptop has stopped the lagging it is running back to normal with the exception of what i did

Now i need help trying to figure out how can i uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Acpi-compliant control method battery im guessing the files got corrupted.

Well done! That is good work. I am pleased to see that you have found the source of some of your problems.

I have viewed all your threads/posts from the past 6 months at MG. You are persistent, I'll give you that!

Have you tried re-starting your computer since "the fix"? What happens re "the fix" after re-starting?

I guess by now you know that you could find the drivers either on your XP installation CD .... or at the Windows Update site ....

OR .... you could try this .... download new drivers and follow the installation instructions here:

Please bear in mind that I am no more knowledgeable on this matter than you are.

Hi Lisa, i have been doing some research on your behalf and no one seems to have a definitive answer but the ones that did seem to work were as follows.

Use your laptop untill the battery is almost out (when you get the warning to save data) and then plug your power cable in.

Secondly you would be surprised how many faults chkdsk can cure.

Open a command prompt and type "chkdsk c: /r" (without the quotes) and press enter. Reboot when prompted and let it do it's thing.

To open a CMD promt, click start and in the search bar at the bottom type CMD and it will open for you.

Yes, that is good to do no matter what ... but for an XP user it may well go something like this ...

Start > Run > and type "cmd" and press Enter key.
    Type "chkdsk c: /r"
or "chkdsk /r if you have only one hard drive ....

(*note the space before the slash .... and after chkdsk)

and press the Enter key .... re-start ... etc

When the scan and repair is complete, the system will re-boot and load Windows normally. If it found any errors .... I would suggest that you repeat the process.

    ---------------------

To quote from your first post:
and having read your previous posts referring to sudden "shut-downs" of your computer ..... I would strongly recommend that you ensure the cooling system in your laptop is clean and that the cooling and ventilation is working as it should.

To do this job properly, you would either need to take the computer to someone and let them do it for you ....

OR .... you would need to remove whatever panels on the laptop necessary to access the relevant parts and ensure that there is not an excess of dust and fluff in there preventing proper cooling of the system/cpu. Ideally it should be blown out with compressed air .... and cans of that can be purchased if necessary ... but other manual methods may suffice.

I realise there are differences between XP and other OSs but it has been such a long time since i saw XP i have forgotten how to use it.
Thanks for putting my post right Aussie.

Ok im back with a solution to this problem, do not know how or what could have happened but a quick fix by disabling Microsoft Acpi-compliant control method battery under device manager gave me full control of my laptop.

Went ahead and uninstalled the old drivers for my wlan card, installed the new drivers rebooted, the reason why i uninstalled the driver for my wlan card was because of maybe conflict between Microsoft Acpi-compliant control method battery and wlan driver... That was just a guess. Could have been a bad shutdown that could have corrupted the drivers.

I let the battery drain out atleast 2min left before it dies, seen i had the blinking light on my laptop that indicates the battery is dieing went ahead and enabled Microsoft Acpi-compliant control method battery and whala everything is back to normal no more conflict.

Thank you everyone for atleast giving a effort in trying to help my problem.

    God bless.
