I need some help badly! I've gotten the haxdoor virus and don't know how to remove it. The only virus removal site I could get to was Microsoft's, but I couldn't find the removal instructions for Win 2X. Can someone please, please help me with instructions.

I'm running Avira software that I just downloaded which found the virus. I can delete it all day but it just keeps coming back. Where/how do I get rid of this thing????

    Thx a ton!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis
    .

Thank you. I'm in the process of going thru the Read & Run Me First.

I'm having trouble with the Windows Defender download though. I'm on Win2X, w/SP4, but it keeps failing to install Defender because it says that I need the 2000 Security Software Prerequisite Package & GDI+. I can't install the GDI+ without the security deal, ....so I'm stuck.

Can I move on past the Windows Defender and still do an acceptable job of cleaning things up????

As the READ ME indicates, if you cannot run Windows Defender for any reason, run CounterSpy and attach the log from CounterSpy.
