Hayfever - sufferers? Remedies?

I posted about conjunctivitus that I suffered from this time last year I recall, but didn't touch on hayfever. This is just one of the many more things I suffer from.

Who here suffers? What remedies do you use?

Beconase seems to be good, plus tablets that I'm prescribed (similar to Clarityn).

For 20 years I struggled with this one - I seemed to have as many side effects with the meds as I did with the allergies themselves. Until about 3 years ago someone mentioned Beconase and it works a treat, on every symptom and is cost effective.

They don't sell it in the US stores, but I managed to source some online. Most places are really expensive, but I knew from the UK it shouldn't cost that much. Finally I got some shipped here....as cheap as the UK and all the way from Oz. Crazy huh?

Anyway, I'm all Beconase :) and shall be stocking up when I re-visit the UK.

The cost of a prescription must be 6.50 pounds by now? It only cost about that much in the stores anyway! Or as the prescription bottles way bigger?

Remember I'm a fulltime student, therefore prescriptions are NHS covered :p

As soon as I saw this thread I thought beconase and clarityn, they are what my brother swears by he has pretty bad hayfever all his life,if we just drive past a field he starts sneezing, its quite amazing to watch how much it effects him and funny :D ,I always start laughing at him, then he starts laughing and sneezing :D

Hmmm..your brother and you have a weird sense of humor I guess

I fail to see the funny side when I'm sneezing my head off, coughing my lungs up, scratching my eyes out and gasping for my next breath......maybe it's just me, but allergies ain't no fun, especially when you live in the grass-growing capitol of the world.

I'm not belittling anyone elses prob, just my brothers, its no holds barred when it comes to laughing at each other,to me asking your brother is he ok instead of laughing at him is a bit weird and bad sense of humour, but anyway.... :)

most of my family suffer from auto-immune disorders. my brother has especially virralant hay-feaver....and i laugh at him too. he came to hawaii once before and it was a real problem. he is coming back in a few weeks, so its goood to know about beconase. my poor baby also has allergies, and is on clohlorpheniramine (dont know what that is in english) AND 'singulair'. i hate that he is on meds, but i made him suffer with it untill about a year ago when pubity made it worse instead of the hoped for improvement.

All my family got worse when pubity hit too.

My 15 year old so far shows no symptoms. He's either light-years behind us or has managed to avoid the "funny" problem.

My 10 year old showed signs from birth.

i WAS the only one inafflicted by hayfeaver - excema - psoriasis - etc, than a couple of years ago, horrors of horrors, my hair started falling out in chunks. alopecia is yet another autoimmune disease that is not funny! fortunately it all grew back and so far, stayed. i have no idea what sparked it off though, and therefore live in fear of relapse. i think humor sometimes takes the sting out of these problems, and i would never knowingly make someone feel worse about themselves. my family managed to make me laugh about something that devistated me.

Most of my hair has fallen out,I blaim my dad :D ,my brothers think its hilarious and remind me every day, again totally different from a womans perspective, but mine will never grow back :( :D

As I tell my brothers 'my brain needed more room and pushed it out' :D

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

Tell your brothers that male-pattern baldness is caused by an excess of testosterone. You're just more virile than they are. :D

When the doc started me on hormone-deprivation therapy for prostate cancer, which kills the testosterone in the system, he actually told my my hair might get thicker. Of course, when he had to switch to traditional chemotherapy he told me it would fall out. Easy come, easy go. (shrug) :D

I've got hay fever, although mine has diminished as I grew older. Short infrequent random fits of sneezing and blowing normally, except when I visit my folks in southern California, land of year round rose bushes, or go to a wedding or funeral where there are lots of flowers. I'm having somebody ELSE cut my grass now. I normally down Claritin as needed for California trips and marry/bury ocassions, and just live with it at home. But if I ever get stuck in the hospital, DO NOT send me flowers! ;)

(sigh) Just got home from a chemo infusion, and notice my spelling has gone to the dogs. Sorry if I missed any typos... time for a nap.

When I was taking OTC stuff, Tylenol Allergy Sinus (or the generic equivalent) did wonders for me. However, decongestants taken over time will raise your blood pressure...something it does NOT say on the packaging anywhere. So now I'm not allowed to take decongestants unless I'm actively sick with a cold, since my blood pressure is on the high side of normal.

I live most of the year on Zyrtec and Singulair; and in spring, summer and fall I add NasacortAQ to the mix. I'm allergic to freaken EVERYTHING.

it worries me that jacob is so young on medication. in addition, i dont know if its because of the meds that he seems so much worse if he runs out. hawaii is pretty much hayfeaver season all year round, but i dont ever remember him being this distressed before. (he ran out over the weekend, and was just a total mess) i think its possible that the medication lowers your tolerance even further, but i might be wrong.

I can't remember how old Jacob is now, but I know when my bro got it about age 10 it got incredibly worse year after year until he got through puberty, and then it stabilized at a level that was still pretty awful, but didnt get worse, so he could learn to cope with that and get it under control.

I think guys get a worse deal, especially through puberty, with hayfever, than women do.
