HD audio device help

I have an Asus P5GD2 motherboard OS: Windows Vista and my on board sound device does not work its a High Definition Audio Device it says in the property that the device cannot start (code 10) clicked on check for solutions does nothing and i have updated my drivers still no go. And it also says that the manufacturer is Microsoft don't know what to do help would be appreciated, please and thank you.

 

I did quite a bit of research, and it appears that Vista has built-in support for this particular sound driver (the CMedia CMI9880). However, many, MANY people are having problems with Vista and that sound chip. CMI is currently having licensing/legal issues and is not providing drivers for many of the onboard audio chips. Apparently a BIOS update can fix the problem, as can installing the XP drivers using Vista's compatibility mode. You can download the XP driver from this link. The link opens the download dialog w/o being routed to another web site, and the download is a .ZIP file. Extract it, run the setup.exe in compatibility mode, and it should work. If you decide to go with a BIOS update, use this direct link to your BIOS download for 32bit Vista, it's a beta release but is over 2 years old so it should be stable. If you have a 64bit OS, visit the Asus web site for the correct download.

Thank you. But i am sorta new to this so what is windows vista Compatibility Mode isn't that when you right click on the program select properties click on the compatibility tab but that's as far as I know. Could you explain thank you :major :major
