HD Failing?

Okay, here's the back story.
My brother got home and turned on his computer on(dell insperion) after a bit it blue screened twice( did not get a chance to catch the error message). I missed the message on the 2nd blue screen.
Scanned with Avast, Full scan came up with nothing except 4 files that were classified as not able to be read and it gave the error of "cyclic redundancy check error " (23). Did some searching and every site says that the HD is failing.
Backed things up.
I would like a second opinion on this.

Could be. Have a look in C:\Windws\minidump folder normally when a pc blue screns it drops a minidump file that can help identify the cause of the problem (assuming they are turned on). if there are some in there attach the latest few to your reply and ill take a look

 

CRC usually indicates a failing drive.

If you can, install and run HD Sentinel. The free version can give you info on the condition of the drive.

Okay,
Went to try to access the mini-dump files, but it wouldn't load, came to the "not responding" message every time I tried to open my windows folder. Went to try to run in Safe Mode, worked for him to back his stuff up, but now( for the second time) it's sitting there taking forever to load the windows files needed for Safe Mode, and it loaded regular Windows??
Suggestions?

 

You could try cloning it to a known good drive.

 

Don't have a good spare, would try that if I could.

 

What brand Hard Disk is the failing one?
