HD got virus..need help plz

hi all i have a compaq presario tower with winxp. For about 2 month now i can log in but my comp seem to lag and wont let me go to my start menu. After i did a mc afee virus scan i found a few virus but mcafee cant clean or delete the file. My only option is to quarantine those file. what must i do now? do i have to refortmat my HD? if so how do i do that? thanks

 

If the files are quarantined, you should be able to deleate them after that.

You shouldn't have to reformat your Hard Drive over this. You shouldn't even be considering that option yet.

Did you try deleating them manually after Mcafee told you where they are?

 

you should be able to go to thier site[ mcafee] and there should be walk through manual steps there to help you. or go to nortons and do search there for virus and see what steps they give you to remove them . some of the virus there are removal tools that will do the job for you

 

have you tried disabling system restore first then doing the virus scan
also make sure youve got all the latest updates from mcafee first

also have you scanned your pc for spyware lately and got all the latest windows updates
