I searched Google and here sorry if it's a repeat.

Is there any way to copy large files sequentially, unfragmented in XP Pro? Maybe I'm making too big a deal out of fragmentation but it seems ridiculous that copying a 1+gig file makes the target file written all over the place.

Can I copy to a RAM drive then write to the drive, or is there a way to block sequential clusters and force XP Pro to write to those?

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Sorry I can't help you with this one, someone else will know. I think it is just how Windows is. Any particular reason you can't just run a defrag program?

I can, but it seems redundant. Copy gigs of files in sequential order then have to defrag.

I may be making too big an issue out of nothing, but I was curious if there's any way to force the write.

    Thanks bud!

You might like the Penguin (Linux OS). I think it defrags on the fly. I agree on the redundancy. Have you tried other defrag programs? Sure you have to manually run them, but they seem to be a little better and faster. I use Auslogics. I would give you a link to MajorGeeks to download it, but the site is down for me. Just search majorgeeks.com.
