HDD Diagnostic tool

Hi there,

does anybody know a tool or a software that can reset or revive a HDD? I have been using seatools, wd's data lifeguard and IBM - Hitachi Drive Fitness Test to test HDDs to test HDDS, but there is this one scenario wherein a friend of mine sent a HDD for testing but when i plugged the HDD on my computer, there is no sign of life on the HDD meaning no audible sound of the disks spinning or the spindle moving. My computer cannot even detect the drive on BIOS. My friend decided to send the HDD to a repair shop and the repair shop managed to revive the HDD... my friend asked the reapir person on what he did with the HDD, the tech said he used a tool from segate that can reset the HDD and revive it. My question is... is there such a tool? and if there is one, can someone tell me what that tool is? I am very interested to get my hands on that tool/software. Thanks in advance

I have never heard of any Seagate software other than the old MaxBlast and Seatools. I don't think any software can work if a HD is not recognized in BIOS.

My interpretation is the guy just got lucky and the HD was recognized by his computer when he plugged it in. Perhaps due to sitting/cooling during transport or in the shop until he got to it. He then probably used Seatools to low format the drive. I don't think there is some magical Seagate software that makes a dead drive spin up. FWIW.

 

Completely concur with Sach,there was nothing wrong with the drive in the first place or it's temporarily working . Software cannot fix a hardware fault that stops a drive being recognised,if your bios can't see it software can't.
