HDD failure?

    Windows 7 x64

    WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6GB/s
    1 year old

    unable to copy files from that drive or within it. No errors received. the copying window comes up but the speed instantly decreases to almost nothing 300-500KB/s .

    I can write data to the drive without problems.


    I downloaded WD Lifeguard, and did a quick test which it passed.
    scanning with HDD regenerator shows sectors with delays detected.
    I've tried switching sata cable/port
    All other drives functioning normally.



    I have a cloned drive image on it that I need.

    Any help is appreciated,

    What model of Motherboard is this on? Is it by any chance on one of the affected SandyBridge motherboards?

    Hi

    Is this a new install of Windows (or is this a new build PC but an image/clone of another PCs install *different hardware* of Windows has been installed)? if so have you installed all the drivers, notably the Chipset? check in Device Manager for yellow ! marks, if you have any let us know what they are.

    And also is Windows 7 at SP1?

    Is this drive the main C: Windows OS install drive or a secondary HDD?

    No cloned image was used to install windows.
    I reinstalled windows yesterday. I haven't downloaded the SP1 update yet.
    Previous install of windows was SP1.
    Problem occurs when chipset drivers are not installed and when they are.
    No missing drivers in Device Manager
    This is a secondary HDD.
