About a week ago I noticed by HDD light is always on and flickering. My PC is always on but this HDD light issue is new. The PC has a RAID 10 configuration with four drives as the "C" drive and an IDE drive as a "D" drive. At first I thought the activity might be something to do with the internet do I blocked all access to the internet with my firewall and the light continued to shine even when I rebooted.

Is there some application that will tell me what resources are accessing the drive and which drive is being accessed?

For a bit of an eye-opening experience, try running Filemon for a short while.

This will show you all the file activity going on with your system in real-time. You'll be blown away how much is going on in the background. It quickly will become no surprise why your HDD activity light is always on.

If this is a problem that you really think you need to resolve (which personally, I wouldn't bother with), this should help you identify the main offenders.

It could be flashing because everything you do has to be mirrored to the other drives. Might take some time for it to mirror everything.

Filemon showed me my Firewall was logging every event and therfore constantly accessing the Hard Drive. Thanks for the tip on Filemon. That is a great tool!
