HDD missing half it's size....

    when i first installed windows 7 months ago something went wrong and it froze... so i restarted the pc but when that happened my HDD went down have the size.... and right now it is still half the size.. but when i check in my bios settings it detects my HDD to be 300 gigs but inside windows it only says 130 gigs max.... anyone know how i can reclaim my lost space?

    What version of Windows are you using?

    What filesystem did you format the drive with?

    look at the cluster size

    im using win xp home SP 2...

    and uh im not sure what u mean by what filesystem i formatted with.... i used win xp home to format? lol

    and whats cluster.... how do i check?

    C:\>right click>format

    when 7 month ago you installed window on a new drive or just reinstalled it? i mean had you had this prob with this drive before the windows installation?

    When you setup a fresh installation of Windows, you have an option to format with the FAT32 filesystem or the NTFS filesystem. Fat32 has some limitations on size that NTFS doesn't have.

    Plaphon is probably asking the right question here: did you even have to format the hard drive, or did you just update an existing version of Windows?
