HDD won't defrag...

I just put in an older, but stable working HDD into my computer for a second drive. I plan on using this second HDD for my games. Have Win XP and the paging file on a separate HDD then my games to try to improve performance a bit.

When I added the games to the HDD, they become a little fragmented, so I wanted to defrag to make sure everything ran as smooth as possible.

Windows' own defrag only gets to 3% and then stops. I have run HDD health diagnostics on the drive and it passes with flying colors.

Any reason why it would do this?

Dont have a real answer, but have seen this before, try an after market program, bet it will work fine.

Did you run diskcleanup and is there enough free space on the drive for a defrag? You could try it in Safe Mode so that nothin clashes with the defrag.
Alternatively do what i did when i got tired of the long defrag times, get another tool. I tried out DiskeeperLite first ( you can download it from the dwnloads in this forum) and have now upgraded to the paid version which really rocks!:clap
