Checking PriceWatch.com for an inexpensive 40GB drive, and I'm finding a whole bunch of listings for HDDs from "Magnetic Data Technology".

I have not previously heard of this company, and their website doesn't help.

Can anybody share experiences with their equipment?

negative, hadn't heard of them before you made this post.
I'd research their business background before buying from them, try and find some reviews @ storagereviews.com

I got a part number... maybe you can search with it : MDECQ2-0400

I would go with a more well know make if i were you... they're better supported and theyre well known for a reason... usually due to good reliability...

That website doesn't look promising. No info on warranty or support, just a feedback form

I'd steer clear of those products until the company has been around for awhile and established themselves as a respected player in the industry.

No experience to share, But do note the price is not necessarily any great deal either, can get maxtor for about $3 more, at pricewatch link. ( I can say Maxtor is good got 3pc running rock solid with them)
Average gonig price for any HDD $1 per GIG, then there is always HDD on sale somewhere for less.

Looks like I am taking the punishment for the group. I am ordering a few of them to check them out. I will post anything I find.

Whats the bet that it will be DOA, or dies after about a weeks operation?
Someone illegally put a refurb HD in my computer once ... it was a pre-built jobbie, they charged me as if it were a brand new one. Got me money back and a brand new hard drive, so i was happy :)

I've bought one of MDT's drives in the past for my sister's computer and it runs fine. However, if you're looking for something more assuring, then go to www.newegg.com and buy a hard drive there. I buy almost everything I need there because here's my perspective on spending:

You could spend some money on a hard drive, or you could invest money in a quality piece of hardware. The choice is yours.

I bought mine from EBay. Over time it has proven to be a bad buy. After reading tons of writeups on HDD's, paying a bigger price for a name brand is the way to go. They have a much higher quality of standards and testing. :)

My MDT after one year of use has 3 bad sectors on it, already. (my 3 previous Maxtors have none since 1999) There seems to be no upgrade drivers available anywhere for this Hard Drive. It use to run with my O/S till failure blue screens kept occuring. I pushed it to a spare drive and it continues to fail. The computor keeps losing track of the Hard Drive, whether it is connected to it or not. I am trashing it as soon as I can buy a new Hard Drive.

Lesson Learned: With prices as low as they are right now on Advertised Hard Drives. Don't take the cheaper road for less years of use and perfomance.

MDT Drives Are Simply JUNK. I Bought A 160GB IDE That Lasted Six Months Two Weeks, Which Was Two Weeks Longer Than It Was Warranteed. I've Owned Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi To Name Only A Few And The MDT Was The Only One I've Had Fail In The First Year. They Claim They Are Made From The Same Components As The Major Manufacturers, Which Is Probably True If You Count The Components That The Others Discard As Your Inventory!
