with sony announcing this week, that they will stop making rear projection tv's, do you think this signals the end for DLP? I mean its cheaper and in my opinion offers better picture and more brilliant colors than LCD and Plasma even though its a little thicker. What do you think, cause I'm seriously debating a dlp tv. thanks.

I believe DLP is more popular over in the US than here in Europe.

The majority of people in the UK seem to go LCD now (even plasma seems to be going out due to the problems it can have). Advantages of LCD are that they last longer, offer great picture quality, are cheaper, and can take more wear and tear - you turn a plasma tv upside down and it's permanently ruined due to the colours running.

I believe the future is looking at even thinner tvs though that are flexible and can roll up. Technology for this is almost 6 years old according to this article - http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/11/12/eveningnews/main529111.shtml

Thin is not in. I hate the looks of current LCDs. I prefer my fat 60" RPTV. ;)

I prefer thin. Of course, my 55in is still rear projection ;)

Though, I'd change my mind, if 60+" LCDs cost around $2000. 1080P to, of course.

I'm sure that price will come...and then so will the new technology so that you don't want the 1080p. :D

Give me thin! We are slowly converting all the tvs.

Dang, BM...how far away you got to sit from that beast? Other side of the house?

We upgraded from an old ( and I mean old) 26" tv to a 32" lcd....I can see!! I can SEE!

(No one told me there was stuff showing with fine print.....LOL).

I am at about the right distance. The prime distance is right around 2x the size of the TV. and I am right at a little over that. I just appreciate that my letter boxed movies don't look like slivers of color on a black tv anymore.

56" LCD @ 1080p, Sky HD - never has sport looked so damn good!

My 60" was an upgrade from my old 27" crt.

But, even if there was a $2000 60" 1080p tv. I'd still do a month or two of research before buying it. Which is what I did for my current tv.

Hmmm, I think I'll stick with my 21 inch CRT until there is something decent to watch on it!

The only thing I am regretting at this moment is I bought an HD DVD player, instead of a Blu-Ray DVD player.

I was reading where optical LEDs are starting to creep out of the woodwork. I can wait.

that might be it, I have just noticed that more and more movies are not coming out in HD but they are in Blu-Ray

Hopefully come tax time this year I will be giving the kids my 32" toshiba sdtv (tube) and getting a 46" 1080p lcd. Luckily I work for a CE distributer so the hit is a lot less then retail. From my experience, working in wholesaling of CE products, "thin is in" I can probably count on 1 hand the number of DLP models that we stock anymore. And floor models? non existent. But as with the processor wars, OS wars, Format wars and the such... it all comes down to personal opinion. I like lcds much better than plasma's and hands down over dlp's. The one I am (hopefully) getting has the new 10-bit panels and runs @ 120Hz.... yummy. but to each their own.
