When I got my new Graphics card, I sold my friend my older Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 card. He thinks that the fan is too loud, and is very worried. I can't particularly remember how loud it was for me, but he says it gets louder and less loud in spurts. I am posting here for him, and directing him here. Should he be worried if he thinks its too loud?

he should be able to check the temperature of the GPU on the driver configuration page (in display properties)

most GPU fans are designed to spin faster duing heavy usage (gaming or video editing) which in turn make it louder... so if thats what he is seeing, its normal.

The fan could also just be going bad. If so, they are easy to replace.

Is it by any chance an apollo "bloody monster 3" because my dad has a 5200fx and that fan is extremely loud, it gets loud at random times like you described. I would suggest replacing it with a high quality gpu cooler, you can get one at newegg.com if youj are worried it will die.

It's not uncommon for GPU fans to make noises when they're on the way out.

They're not expensive or difficult to replace.
