heat and fan running

In layman's terms, the fan seems to be spinning faster or working harder and the vent seems to be putting out more heat.

I have Belarc advisor if there is a place that will help you with information you wish to request.

I also can open the task manager but cannot read or understand it well.

Intel R core TM i5 CPU M 460@ 2.53 GHz

Max speed 2.53 GHz Utilization 2-3% speed 1.3 - 1.4 GHz after a minute or 2 of use.

This is with the pc running cool after a blowing out with air last night.

The battery needs to be replaced as soon as it comes in. This is a 3 year old Dell Inspiron N5010, R15.

If there are any places on the pc I can take a picture of and send to you, please advise me and I will oblige.

It seems not to be racing this am as it had been before I blew it out with air.

However, it is now beginning to intermittently race and get hot again. I keep the vents open and never on a lap or bed and keep it on sleep unless in use.

As I said, I had been installing some Linux distros to pen drive which were failing until I got home and used my desktop and local set up; then the Linux succeeded. I had tried about a dozen times.

I do not know if this racing which seems new to me, is hardware related or software related.

I try to maintain it once a week, running %temp %, checking system restore, check defrag, Secunia, disc clean up etc.

It seems the more I ask of it to do, the more it begins to race.

However, as I said it seems better this am after using compressed air.

I do not know if a refresh or reinstall is necessary. I do have images but they are mostly recent except one I keep that goes way back.

Should I run the pc on just ac until the battery gets here?

even what is the free capacity of your hdd ? How much memory do you have in your machine ? What is the surface in which your laptop is placed ? :wave

 

I just ordered a new battery and only their mAh was a bit higher. All other specs were the same, N5010, etc. Not Dell.= too much money.
Service tag = 570X3N1

Free = 557 GB out of 590 GB

RAM = 6 GB

Surface is never cloth or soft always table, or if lap it is with intake of air to the side and clear.
We leave it sleeping and not plugged in..

I noticed in the task manager that Windows Module installer worker is 27% and host process for windows tasks is the same.
The pc seems to raceseven with the battery out and on ac power.

 

With or without the battery in, the laptop still is racing with the fan faster and heat coming from the vent.

I downloaded a lot of Linux distros on a recent trip and that seemed to be the beginning of the problem.

I ran dx tests and they were ok. Do you think this is hard ware or software?

My operating system is Windows 8.1 Pro with media center.

I have Defender and SpywareBlaster. I also scan with MBAM and SAS.
This is behind a router.

What is your opinion regarding software causing it to run hot which the refresh program might help, or is that not a viable option?

I do not use registry cleaners anymore, even Revo, as a few orphans are better than a dropped file.
I have used task manager and msconfig to see what is starting and what is running and I am ok in that dept.

Registry cleaners are the biggest debate on the web.
