Heatsink hitting max rpm

This is more of an inquiry weather something is ok or not. I just built my pc with:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology

Motherboard: Intel "D865PERLX" i865PE Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU

Heatsink: Thermaltake P4 Spark 7+ (Xaser Edition) Highest Performance Copper CPU Cooler, w/ Temp.Controler

I put everything together (including the thermal compound). When I turn on the computer, and it's at resting position, the fan is quiet and the cpu is at 102 degrees F. But when the CPU usage is at 50% the temperature rises max to about 138 degrees F and the Heatsink reaches it's max rpm of 6000. I'm just wondering if this is normal because the heatsink will get really loud.

Oh, I also have two exhaust case fans.

 

I don't know that particular system, but you might be able to get an indication of the temperatures other users are getting here.

 

Those P4 3.0 cpu's run hot.
I got one running stock HS/Fan, even stock thermal pad, but I'm running bit cooler than you, peaks low to mid 50c, cpu fan I think is running about 3100rpm (I always run stock for bit, planning on going aftermarket, doing a little research)
A couple of things, make sure your case has good air flow, cool air in/hot air out.
Room temp is big factor.

Maybe your Thermaltake isnt so high preformance.
I've heard the Thermaltake heat pipes are good.
I took a look at that link Rob M posted all the P4 3.0 in the same boat.


Intel Prescott P4 3.0 E ( The E must mean Extra, as in Extra Heat, LOL)
Ive got several other PC's, the other's AMD based, half the cost, half the heat too. LOL
I think I'll have go to Water Cooled on my P4 ?????
