    Hello,

Sorry not sure where I should post this, but having a computer problem and need help!

I have just set up my PC (which is from uni days and hasn't been used in over a year) and it loaded up to the enter password screen but alas my wireless keyboard was dead so had to plug in an old one and restart, when I restarted I got a Blue screen of death (BSOD) reading some forums on here I disabled the Auto turn off and read the screen error:

    ***STOP:0X0000007B (0XFFFFFA60005AF9CO,0XFFFFFFFF00000034,
    0X0000000000000000, 0X0000000000000000)

It is a MESH computer and 95% sure its a Windows Vista OS, I have tried loading in Safe Mode, Safe mode with command prompt etc, and think I found the Windows Vista SP1 cd so put that in and restarted the computer but nothing happened?

When I research for help all the suggestions seem to start with the computer already on and accessing start, I have a laptop luckily but am not a tech person and cannot take apart my PC to try running checks or what not.

Any advice or guidelines on how much I am looking at to get it fixed by someone would be grateful.

    Thank you for any help

STOP:0X0000007B means an inaccessible boot device (usually the hard drive). Hopefully someone will jump in and offer trouble shooting steps for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. :cry

Do you have data that needs to be backed up?

When I run into this error, I try to boot into BIOS SETUP and "synthesize" any change - pick any YES NO or ENABLE-DISABLE item, and I set it to one value, then change it back, (That is, I make the Opposite Selection, go back to that menu and re-change that value back.)

This is what I mean by "synthesizing a change".

Then I do a SAVE AND EXIT from BIOS Setup, and see if the computer will restart. If the computer hasn't been used in a while, I've believed that perhaps the BIOS table was corrupted (or the motherboard's battery was low-charged or dead) and this re-saving the BIOS Table might re-initialize the boot-device choices.

Of course, I also use BIOS SETUP to see if my boot-drive is recognized, period. If not, then I've probably got a dead hard-drive.

    Hi rjordan,
Unfortunately not, I could cope with losing most of my data but photos I do not have back up of.

    ChristineBCW,
Thank you for this (please think of me as a bit of a dolt) I clicked F10 whilst loading which lead me to the Edit boot options: this is what comes up:

Edit windows boot options for: Microsoft Windows Vista
    Path: \windows\system32\winload.exe
    Partition: 2
    Hard disk: C628fb10
    [ /NOEXCUTE=OPTIN

Try "Boot". It should display a list of the potentially bootable drives on your system. You want to move your CD/DVD drive to the top of that list and then press which ever button results in the saving of that list. Then put your Windows Vista install/repair disk into the optical drive and reboot the computer. It will then boot into a Windows pre-installation environment from where you should be able to do some diagnostics and repair.
