    Hello again!

Yes, I know I don't often visit here now - my machine - being new - is running very sweetly, thanks to my very own personal techie, my son, Mark, who has been in the computer business for 30+ years, so whenever anything needs to be attended to, I just have to give him a call and he fixes what is wrong. However, I have ONE grudge against him - this new machine came fitted/loaded with Windows-7, and I have been PLEADING with him to PLEASE put me back on XP, which he absolutely REFUSES to do, saying: "Mom, you have worked your way up the Windows ladder from start, and you WILL learn to be just as proficient in Win7 as you were in its predecessors..." (Dammit - how does the man expect my 77-year old brain to cope with this very frustrating technology???) I've been trying to navigate my way through it since March, but there are issues that still leave me rather frustrated. Oh, well, as the man said: "I'm doing this to prevent you going ga-ga - you need to keep your brain active..." Well, I threatened to brain him if he gets any funny ideas of upgrading me to the next Windows whatever...

Anyhow, don't know whether you good folks have ever seen the following - found it hidden somewhere in one of my old backup files:

Why Computers Sometimes Crash! by Dr. Seuss.
(Read this to yourself aloud - it's great!)

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted at a very last resort,
And the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel to another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall.

And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
    So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse;
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'cuz sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang.

When the copy on your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk,
And the macro code instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you'll have to flash the memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM,
And then turn off the computer and be sure to tell your Mom!

Well, I guess that certainly clears things up for me!!!!! How about you?

    Hi ®KIM

Good to hear from you again but I agree with your Son, and Win7 is what's needed, XP is old hat and needs retiring, it was superb in the day but Win7 is much better once you get used to the GUI. My mom 67yrs and my nieces of 7 and 12yrs are fine with W7, so you should be fine also, just give it a good go and think positive and not about XP.
