Hello and test lol

I have a question to post for my husband since 'his click' cant answer him and i always come here Lol i just forgot my log in etc to the one i used before years ago.. here is what he asked them..and he has two pics also im just not sure where to post it all...:-o his question--

'Ok maybe some of you guys here can help me out. My graphics card has a DVI 24+5 female plugin while my pc monitor has a DVI 24+1 female plugin. Would it be possible if i was to get the HDMI to DVI 24+1 adapter and HDMI to DVI 24+5 adapter and just connect the HDMI cable i have now to the adapters? Right now im running from DVI 24+5 adapter to VGA out and VGA in to the monitor.'

Right off the top of my head I'd say yes: try the adapters. Shouldn't hurt anything to try.

I'm thinking wouldn't it be easier to buy a DVI-D(24 +1) to DVI-D cable? That would carry the digital signal from the graphics card to the monitor. Just to help clarify, the extra 4 holes on the DVI-I (24 +5) interface of the graphics card are there to carry the VGA signal. If he only wants to use the digital signal he does not need to connect to those extra four holes.

 

Awesome guys! he said he is trying to get the best performance out of his graphics card and as of right now he is connected to the monitor thru the VGA connection..he doesnt know much about hdmi and wants to know if you can help him with the difference between hdmi and vga etc..Lol

I think since his monitor and card both have DVI inputs/outputs a DVI-D to DVI-D cable is the cleanest solution. No adapters. For $6 it is probably the same price as getting a couple of adapters. Look for one with those black barrels like the one I linked to as they minimize interference from other electronic devices. Get one about the length you need rather than excessively long. 6 feet is the norm.

I always thought the main difference between DVI and HDMI was that HDMI also carried the audio signal all in one easy connection. It appears from that article that HDMI is also somewhat better for very high resolution video like blue-ray discs.

If he doesn't have HDMI connections on video card or monitor, I would buy the DVI cable and put the HDMI one away for now.
