Hello.....I haven't been around for awhile, but I still frequent the forums. I do have a ? and I wasn't sure where to post this at. So here it is, if its in the wrong forum. let me know. Thanks

I am a 44 yr old woman, with I think relatively good (knowledgable) computer skills. Am on the computer probably 10-12 hrs a day, between work and home. I do use the internet alot. My question is, I want to go back to school in something computer related. I want to know from you what you think is the area that is in demand now, or within the next 2 yrs. I was looking at A++ Certification and CISCO. Are either of these areas worth the time spending to become certified or is their something else I should concentrate on first?

Hello! I just wanted to wish you good luck with continuing your education. I am 40 and also decided to go back to school. I am working on a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design and am taking courses online. It will take me about 3 years to finish a degree. So, you are not alone with becoming a student again after 40. I do not have any suggestions about a computer degree though, so keep watching for responses. Welcome back home to Geeks! :wave Shanrene in Knoxville, TN

I'm 57, and have a couple of humanities degrees, which didn't improve my long haul truck driving skills
much :-D ... but anyway, I've fiddled w/computers for a lot of years, and thought I knew what I was doing, kind of, but I didn't...what helped me was to take an A+ class, a freebie at a local JC , because it had a hand's on hardware repair/rebuild component, and that changed everything, as I got a lot more understanding of how computers operated...and we had a couple guys in our class who had degrees in computer science, and knew code and stuff: I don't...and A+ is often scorned by "real geeks" but "real geeks" also know that most of the trickier code based stuff can now be farmed out to India and other areas, while low-rent uncool A+ stuff--like truck driving--can't quite be farmed out...(most of my friends have computers either way overloaded w/unneccessary programs, or malware....which they often don't realize *is* malware...)

Next, since most of the work I do for friends and stuff, is on Windows setups, particularly Vista, I sadly sold my trusty mac mini, and put to rest my linux OS setup, and bought and installed Windows *Vista* as no matter what anybody says--including linux/mac boys like me--Windows is what most people have on their computers....and this is going to continue...and Vista is what rules, right now...

And then I started looking into MS degrees, so I could understand Vista better, and purchased MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-620): Configuring Windows Vista Client, so I can hopefully take that test...but who knows, I might not, but I'm learning a lot of stuff I think helps me better understand Vista....

Best wishes, lots of different answers, mine was one was just one of them...

I am also an over 40 person who has gone back to school. I am doing a total online class through MSCTC. Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
I am going for a 2 year degree in Computer Help Desk Tech, including Web Design. I will be learning some coding. I guess for me I want to learn as much as I can for whatever is needed in my area.
    Good luck to you.
