Hello, I am new here and a Question

Hi,

Thank you for making this forum available and thanks to those who help people who are having problems.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I've searched on my own to no avail.

I was going through a list of start up services (unnecessary programs) that take up CPU that can be disabled from the command MSCONFIG (System Configuration Utility) and there is a program listed on my start up items listed simply as "1." I have disabled it, and it's had no effect. However, I want to identify exactly what this is and if it's something that shouldn't be on my machine, I want it off. My system as far as I know at this point is clean of any kind of malware. I would just like to know what this is. It doesn't seem to match with anything I have running. I am using Windows XP.

You Really need to follow the information in the Malware forum, due to making changes without knowing what they do, will end up cripplying your system to the point of rendering it unbootable. From the sounds of it, you need to talk to the experts over in there.

I made sure that it wasn't critical to the system prior to making the change. I didn't want it running because I couldn't identify it. There haven't been any problems as a result.

I'm not sure it's malware, but I would like to know what it is. I suppose I should post this question in a different section of the forum.
