I think my computer is infected because:

    1. I get pop ups
    2. I did have limewire two years ago
    3. My internet explorer will just act weird like 20 internet explorers popping up unexpectedly
    4. My computer freezes
    5. I watch occasional porn too
    6. I surf the net with no protection (I know that is really dumb now, but I learned my lesson hence my screen name lessonlearned)

However, I must say that my computer runs at a good speed. But, I do want to get rid of this virus/es so what steps show I do that will help me do that? Also I dont want to download programs that will slow down my computer. And what should I in the future to protect my computer?

    Thank you for your time,
    Lessonlearned

We can only help you once you have thoroughly read and been thru all of the malware removal procedures which for reference I will link to below.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, You can try running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

1st of all thank you for replyng.

    2. I did the windows xp procedures on my friends laptop and mines since we are both having the same problems. So would it be a problem to help me out with two computers?

Don't mind at all with helping out with 2 seperate machines BUT you must ENSURE that you keep your logs in this thread here...and make a FRESH thread in malware removal and attach your friends log to his "own" thread. Maybe call the thread "computer #2" This way things don't become confusing and although you may have similar issues, our fixes are tailored uniquely for individual machines.

Please be patient whilst I review your logs, thanks :)

    Hi there

Just to start by addressing a few things:
The lack of memory available to your machine is part of your problem. I suggest an upgrade of RAM

You did not agree to the Trend Micro license agreement when you installed MGTools.exe

    1) If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    2) Please go to Add or Remove programs and uninstall the following softwares:

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    • Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

    3) You need to navigate to your C Drive and double click the MGTools.exe icon and let the program run again. This time ensuring you agree to accepting the license agreement to HijackThis

    4) Do you know what the below file relates to?

If not, Click Start > then My Computer > Double- click Local Disk (C)

Navigate to: c:\program files\1228714163153-integrated.jnlp <--- and right click and delete it.

    5) Now reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    6) Now Run Ccleaner!

    7) Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

    Thanks
    Kestrel13!

You didn't let me know how your computer was behaving. But your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi Kestrel13!

I did all the steps and right now my computer is doing well. I now have superanti spyware, avast, and online armor.

    Thanks :)

P.s. since I know one of the websites that infected my laptop. I can NEVER go on that site again even though I am protected now????

    Hey there :)

    Excellent. And you're very welcome.

That's right, you must never visit sites that you know are bad, and you must always excercise caution when visiting new sites that you are not sure of. Something like The McAfee site advisor comes in handy for this. It's a browser plug in for both Firefox and Internet Explorer (and is nothing to do with anti-virus .. just made by McAfee) When you have this installed you will see colour coded indicators against the google search results.... red for bad..green for good...grey for untested..yellow for caution... but do bear in mind that this isn't 100% effective. You always have to fall back on common sense whilst surfing.

    Kind regards
    kestrel13!
