Welcome Kati, you could go to the Malware forum, do the Read and Run first instructions and then we can help you with your issue.

    hi Tim...
thanks for directing me to read and run...
it became apparent that it's not for someone like me...
multiple questions regarding some instructions would take an inordinate amount of time...
I'll do some saving [as in...money] and then take the laptop to Tesseract in Victoria.
thank you for being readily available and willing to help
    all good wishes.....kati

    Hi Kati and Welcome

While the steps that Tim posted look awesome! they are when you take them in bite size chunks, really easy, I know a lot of seniors that think the steps are overly complicated at first glance but when they divide the steps up they find them ok, it also saves you loads of $$$£££

But I know if the steps are manic that getting a competent pro to pay to rid you of malware is the only way, I just hope that they are good to rid you of your malware and also pre-malware removal back up all your data or important files in case they need to restore Windows to default, so check that they will backup your important data first.

    thanks David :)

I would like to do it myself for the learning experience [just as I learned to fix my own vehicles]
I backed off so as not to be asking questions that would take up Tim's time.
However, he sent me a post a short time ago saying to ask so that is what I want to do...

thanks again for the encouragement :)

    :) thank you

    I'll get right to it:

I read up on doing attachments but the icons didn't show up [I'm using an old, slow Internet Explorer that I don't know my way around] for the MBRCheck [if needed] do I click insert link or insert image?

regarding the MBRCheck - at the end of the information it says - limitations: project abandoned - do you still want it anyway?

re: roguekiller: it says for professional use - scary
do I download it anyway - as you'll be instructing me on how to use it?

meanwhile - I have a lot more reading to do :cool
    good wishes...kati

Just download them to your desktop, if that is easiest. Then run them and they will produce a log. When you reply to your thread ( One you start in the Malware forum ) scroll down and you will see a place where it says to add attachment - just read this:

How to attach items to your post or view How to Attach Items: the Video.

    hi Tim
sorry I'm so slow to catch on
today when I went to the link to see how to do attachments I noticed the recommendation for malwarebytes
I went to the site and they cleaned my pc...so I bought the premium version
I went into google and no redirection or pop ups took place
I am assuming my pc is now safe for doing banking and the like...or....do I need to do more cleaning?
I think the malwarebytes.txt is in the right spot...I still am not understanding a lot of this

You had assistance from MBAM forums to clean your system? And they gave you a clean bill of health?

    uummm....no
downloaded malwarebytes after seeing it here
said "they cleaned my system" meaning their product cleaned my system....not them personally
and when I went to google it didn't have any pop ups or do any redirecting so wasn't sure if I needed to do more or if my machine is clean

It's up to you. The only way I can say you are totally clean is to check your system for malware which would entail you doing the Read and Run First instructions and attaching the logs.

If you feel your issues are resolved, then carry on. ;)

    Hi

I'm With Tim in that if you really wish to know if you are clean then you need to fully run the Read and Run Me in the malware forum and attach the logs in a new post in the malware forum on Majorgeeks.

This will allow our really expert malware specialists to review your logs and advise.
