Well, I tried everything the computer crashed and I am trying to set up the new one a friend loaned me- see old post!

I cannot move files and pictures my old computer is not recognizing the device I am trying to put it on.
Is there a good online storage that I can put my pic's files and folders , about 5-9 G and then transfer to new computer.

Mozy has a glitch that does not recognize the new computer so, when I had to reformat last time we had to ditch Mozy

Money is tight, so, I am looking for a user friendly ( newbie) inexpenisve storage that I can upload my info and then download to the new computer.

When I get the new one running I have some questions, but one day at a time! :)

I'm not Cordialis; I think this is your old thread? I'll give the ideas I have, but not sure how much it will help:

I've heard of people emailing large files to themselves if they have unlimited email storage, but I'm not sure if the servers holding your email like that too much. Online storage I use that's free only gives 30 to 50MB, which would not do for your case. 1and1.com gives 10GB for $1.99 for the first 3 mo., although not sure if you have to sign up for just 3 months, or a whole year. They are actually set up for hosting web sites. You could probably find plain file storage sites, also, but I don't use them. To transfer files, I usually either move the old hd into the new computer temporarily or connect the computers with cables. I find this simpler and more efficient than other ways, unless it is a few small files that fit on a few small disks. Also, burning optical disks is a good idea, but I understand your problem of not getting devices to work. Also, I'm not sure about actually connecting them in your case, since one may be infected. I would have an updated antivirus scanner running before transferring the files using any method, and make sure they get scanned. (Although pictures rarely carry viruses.) Also, you may want to wait for others to recommend better/cheaper online file storage if they know of some.

    Thank you! :)
I am a newbie, as poor Cordialis knows! Ck my profile....but I am learning and working hard at it. I am going from an HP Pavillion 751n to a Dell Inspiron - The HP is totally infected and we have been working to clean it, but there are scripts running , the registry is a mess , and I do not know how, nor do I think it would be safe to transfer from the HD. I just want my music, my files, my Doc's , pictures and my video's and tele seminars that are on Vlan. The dis's I tried to use to back up are not working, the DVD- R , would not work, the CD- R-RW would not work, yet it says this should be working?
I am so confused and frustrated I have been working on this for weeks. I get it running and then it goes wiggy again. My FF is corrupted, I tried to reload it, but it has the same problem, there is something in this computer that the anti virus and the malware programs are not getting and it is beyond my ability.

I will look into what you said, and hopefully, someone will see this and be able to help. I will look into the storage option you mentioned.
Someone suggested 4hare, or IDrive, I do not know about them.. we found them through google!

    Have a great day!

My brother's friend uses mediafire.com, which is advertised as free, virus-checked, unlimited file hosting. I think it has a max file size limit of less than half a gig or so per file.

You could use Bit Torrent to transfer the files, but you'd have to have both the PC with the files running, and the PC that you want to copy the files to. Then you'd upload a torrent to a tracker using the PC with the files. Then you'd download the torrent on to the other PC using a client like uTorrent or BitComet. It isn't the fastest way, but as long as you have an antivirus running on the PC where the files will end up, you won't transfer any malware. But if you don't know about torrents and trackers and clients then it may be more than you want to deal with. I don't know the past history here, but couldn't you set up a home network and share the files and copy 'em that way? Or use an external drive? Or just take the drive from one PC and hook it up to the other? As long as you have antivirus software running on the destination PC there's very little chance of transferring an infection. You could also use a USB data transfer cable (also called a 'lap-link' cable).

(BTW- what the :*** is "Mozy"?)

Mozy is this BS file storage system that you pay 4.95 a month for. However, it is set up to only recognize your computer, so , if you crash and reformat or get a new computer it will not download your files for you. It is a glitch in there system that they have not fixed in over a year.

I tried using a USB card and my computer cannot see it.
    I am so frustrated
    Thanks for the help!
