I have a PC running XP and have tried spybot, adware 2007, NOD32 antivirus software and cleaning it in the safe mode - nothing works. I've found the folder locked and hiding in the C windows folder, system 32, lpcywinp folder but it is LOCKED when I try to delete it in safe mode. I tried unlocking the folder first by going into the start menu but that didn't work. I just used hijack this and saved a copy but too scared to check off anything. I could really use any suggestions. Thanks

I've completed the steps and attached the following hijack this log. I was unable to do an update for windows due to the virus. Thank you for your help.

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed. READ & RUN ME sticky not followed.

Please follow the instructions already given. No place in those instructions does it ask you to post a HijackThis log. Especially an inline log from an out of date improperly installed HijackThis program.

Oops, I must be a beginner not in the intermediate range. I believe I had followed all 10 steps of the READ & RUN First - and followed them. I reread and followed them again. I re downloaded Sun Java and am using Opera rather than Mozilla FreFox. I saved a log this time of Ad-Aware & CCleaner. This must have been the logs that you requested. The forums don't have a listing of the exact lpcywinp virus deletion. Is there another software I should scan with???

Edit by chaslang: Inline Ad-Aware 2007 log removed. READ & RUN ME sticky not followed.

Not based on what you keep doing! We do not want any logs posted inline. This is explained in the READ & RUN ME if you have read it. Also no where in those instructions does it ask you to run Ad-Aware 2007 or any other version of Ad-Aware nor do we want to see a log from it. Nor do we want a log from CCleaner but we do ask you to run it on all user accounts.

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME step by step from the beginning and proceed up to the point where you need to ATTACH the requested logs if you are still having problems.

My third try: I downloaded all the needed windows updates for my XP
SP2, along with Microsoft Windows malicious software removal tool. (It said I had NO problems). I downloaded Windows Defender and used it under administrator and my user name and it said I HAVE NO PROBLEMS. I ran Spybot, CCleaner, and Nod32 again. All three fixed my "minor" problems"

PROBLEM: A pop-up ad for spyware and another for running computer faster keeps popping up. My desktop has no picture only a black background with the file folders showing. Across my black desktop in red printing is a sign that tells me I may have a threat of a spyware and lists my IP number. The minute I boot up Internet Explorer the ad immediately comes up, too. I went into control panel deleted it and downloaded a new Internet Explorer using my Opera web browser. Please help - I think I am out of options
    Thank You,
    Kermie21

None of this is requested in the READ & RUN ME and in fact updating while infected is a very bad idea.

Until you do ALL of what is requested in this READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide there is nothing we can do for you. You must run ALL steps and attach the logs we ask for in the procedure. Until you do this and attach the logs, you have not followed the instructions.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My computer virus problems were cleaned and solved due to following the steps that were outlined in special cleaning of XP system. I was frustrated originally due to unable to click and open any of the suggestions you mentioned due to having my block pop-up adds block on. So after at least working 25 hours of copy and pasting under Search the steps you outlined, I noticed a 1/4 inch notice saying pop-up block opening in the upper right hand corner of my screen. Again, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!:wave
