Im not very good with computers, so Ill try to explain my problem the best I can...

Ill start off by giving you some info on my computer... I have a Gateway, Pentium III, its about 2 1/2 years old. I have Windows XP Home, I use Hi-speed connection with Comcast, and I just go through the internet explorer to connect...

My problems started a few months ago when I used a few spyware programs to get rid of all the adware on my computer. My sounds were not working for all my programs, and I was always getting an error message that stated, "The audio device is currently in use by another program." It was kind of hard to correct this problem since windows was not detecting any audio devices on my computer at all!

So yesterday I sat down and went though the Windows troubleshooter to fix this sound problem. After going through a few steps, I came to one step that told me to uninstall the cd audio hardware by going to the Device Manager, then Media Controls, and then remove "mcicda.dll". Then restart the computer and let windows automatically detect the new hardware, and then reinstall.

So after doing all this, I was pleased to find the sounds on my computer were working correctly again, and windows was detecting my audio device again. The problem though is that ever since then, I have not been able to connect to the internet!

I have cable connection, and I spent hours checking and rechecking my internet connection settings. Everything looked fine. Then I went through the windows trouble shooting, and after going through all the available steps, it told me it couldnt help me. I pinged my DSN address (I think thats what its called) and out of the 4 packages that I sent out, all 4 came back. I also did a system restore to 3 different earlier dates and it still did not work. I called my cable provider, Comcast, and they went through all the steps with me to make sure the settings were all correct, which they were, and they ran some of thier own tests, but we still couldnt figure out why I could not connect to the internet. So they came to the conclusion that there must be somthing wrong with my computer since everything else looked okay.

I dont remember which menu I went to, but I do recall getting to a page on my computer that showed me it was receiving the cable signal, it also showed the running time of the connection, and the speed, so I have no doubt that my computer is the problem.

Then I decided to try to dial-up though AOL. I changed all my settings to dial-up, opened AOL, clicked on sign-on, I heard the modem dial tone, I hearding dialing, I heard all the crazy noises, then..... Nothing!! It stopped and went back to the sign-on screen and gave me an error that a connection could not be made, and gave me no other information at all.

So then I spent hours trying to fix my dial-up problem, and of course was unable too. Since the hi-speed and the dial-up are both not working, does anyone know what the problem could be??

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

Does this program work the same way as PC Doctor? Because I ran the PC Doctor and it did not find anything wrong...
