Help! Cannot Logon to the Internet

I have two hard disks on my computer. Both are configured with Windows XP SP 2. I recently bought a US Robotics 56K Fax Modem. It works fine on one hard drive. But when I try to connect to the Internet from the second hard drive I get the following error message:"The modem is already in use or is not configured properly."

Any help getting connected to the internet from this hard disk is much appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

I just wanted to see if you installed the software and or drivers on both hdd
or if you just did the one.

If you have installed it try uninstall on the one its not working on and reinstall and see what happens.

 

I have installed the drivers on the harddrive that is running OK. I checked device manager and there is no problem with the modem or modem drivers.

Also when I try to run modem troubleshooter from the bad harddrive I am given a BSOD. Maybe it is related to the same problem?

 

Update- The problem was solved!

My ISP recommended that I uninstall and reinstall the modem on the bad HDD. They said the Find Hardware Wizard would find and reinstall the drivers. I uninstalled successfully, but when I went to reinstall was given avbout three BSODS in a row. I rebooted into safe mode and the find hardware wizard added the drivers.

I then rebooted and ran some of the routines from the malware section. Specifically, Spybot Search and Destroy, CCleaner and Counter Spy. The other two came up dry, but CCleaner found a bunch of junk lurking on that HDD, so I reran it on each desktop (three, total) and from safe mode.

Now the drive works fine.
