Help. Can't even get help to load

I got what I think was adware on my computer and couldn't get it off. Had to re-do the operating system. Since then I have downloaded "spyware doctor", assassin, etc. trying to get things back right but they will load but the definitions won't. Started McAffee virus scan from disk and computer locked up. Had to do a system restore to get computer to work again.
I'm a computer dummy and I don't want to spend as much as a new computer to fix this one. Can anyone help?

In this forum, we can help you removal malware problems if you are having malware problems however based on what you have posted you are not having malware problems (especially if you just reinstalled). Sounds to me like you are havin issues with installing and setting up your Software. I suggest you post in the Software Forum and explain each problem you are having exactly. And if you are having issues getting updates, make sure that you are not blocking your applications from having access thru your firewall.
