I bought a Kodak Z730 easy share camera, I have a laptop Windows
2000. The camera came with software, which I have installed. It
will not download the pictures to the computer. I have tried everything
I can think of. I even went and bought a card reader, and that
won't work either. My computer keeps telling me I am low on
virtual memory too. What can I do.

What are your system's specs? You are running low on virtual memory, because all of your physical memory (RAM) is being used, and the system is using hard drive space as virtual memory, and even that is reaching its limit. To check and adjust your virtual memory settings, please do the following:

    1. Right-click My Computer
    2. Select 'Properties'
    3. Select the 'Advanced' tab
    4. Under 'Performance' press the 'Settings' button
    5. Select the 'Advanced' tab
    6. Under 'Virtual Memory' press the 'Change' button

Here, you will see your current virtual memory settings. A typical setup will use 1.5 times your amount of physical memory. Therefore if you had 1 GB of RAM, you would have 1024 MB, and you would use 1536 MB of virtual memory. Select the radio button and/or enter the quantity you like, and press the 'Set' button. You will have to restart for the setting to take effect. You may also want to follow these instructions to tweak your system for performance, and lower your resource consumption, which should help with these messages.

Also, I recommend that you DO NOT use the Easy Share software! IMHO, it is the worst software ever developed! It has had horrible effects on almost every computer I've seen it installed upon, and it even needs a special tool to uninstall it! The uninstaller that comes with it doesn't do the job! If you are interested you can find the uninstall tool at this link. Without the software, you should be able to use the camera as though it were a USB memory stick, and copy your files over through windows explorer.

Okay, we will need to know the amount of physical memory installed in your system. To find out, please do the following:

    1. Right-click My Computer
    2. Select 'Properties'

This will take you to a screen like the attached screenshot. The number circled in red is what we are after. We will want to set your virtual memory to 1.5 times this amount.

Mine does not look exactly like yours, but at the bottom it says, 130,512 KB Ram

Follow these instructions, then select the radio button next to 'Custom' and enter 192 in both text fields, and press set. This will change your virtual memory (aka pagefile) to a reasonable amount. I still recommend that you follow these instructions to make sure that your system is running at its best.

I have done everything you said, the camera still does not download,
maybe I am doing it wrong? One time it said no device connected to
computer. This is driving me crazy:mad:

So, I assume you don't have the Kodak Easyshare software installed on your system anymore?

    Let's try this:

    1. Connect the camera to the comuter with the USB cable
    2. Power on the camera
    3. Right-click My Computer
    4. Select 'Manage'
    5. Click 'Disk Management'

This will list all the available space in your system. One of these items should correspond to your camera. Post back with a screenshot of this window. To do so, hit alt+print screen. This copies an image of the window to the clip board. Open paint, and select 'Paste' from the 'Edit' menu, and it should appear there. Save it, and use the 'Manage Attachments' button under the text body to post it.

I may be missing the point butt....(first cupa joe)
Would it not be easier just to add more memory to the pc as it looks like its severly underpowered. OR can be caused by a improperly seated or new incompatible memory stick.

Second There are known problems with CERTAIN Not All Kodak cameras (mine dc4800 and will not dl pics via usb cable w/ no known fix  )

Well, more RAM is always an option. However, 128 MB should be enough for a Win2K machine. I just don't recommend hardware upgrades to users who haven't expressed an interest in it. (New users might resort to having someone install it for them at a ludicrous price - and that just sucks) This is especially true for a laptop owner.

If one can avoid using the easyshare software, then its very much worth trying to!
