a friend of mine uninstalled some sort of color / display manager from her computer ( she is not certain of the name of it , might have had the words max and color in it ) anyway getting to the problem, when it left her desktop has gone out of control, the icons are HUGE her browser is enourmous, the colors are mostly gone and she cant seem to get new settings to stay, why wold have getting rid of this done that? she has no desktop architect or anything simalar , should she download one?

Where did she GET this color manager?

If it came with the computer and she just uninstalled it to see what would happen, she should shuffle through the CDs that came with the computer. Does she have anything that came with the monitor or the video card?

Has she rebooted since she did this thing?

She may have to reinstall the display drivers.

Try restoring the computer to a point before doing uninstallation

IF you have windows me and up you will be able to do this

Endiablado (or somebody else, if you're reading this), can you walk jett through the Device Manager and rolling back or updating the driver for this non-functioning display?

I'm just too tired to keep typing tonight.

I suspect the drivers for the video card have been deleted.

Maybe you should try updating or reinstalling the drivers from the windows 98 disk. it might work.

also look for the disk that came with the computer for the video card

    as a last resort

you might have to open the computer and see if there is a name of the video card somewhere on the card. if you find it you might be able to download the driver from the internet.

I will try. but I dont think windows 98 has the roll back option available.

I will go and turn on my windows 98 computer and find out :)

Edit:yep no rollback option in windows 98

    Endiablado is going to help.

If you don't get it fixed tonight, turn it off overnight. It's not good for you to run at bad driver settings.

Have you tried changing the screen resolution in control panel?
    Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
    Double click Display icon
    Select Settings tab
Move the slider to the right.
    Click Apply
Also, on the same Settings tab, are color selections. Try selecting 16 bit High Color (may ask you to restart computer)
    Good luck!

I'm not trying to butt in here, I would just like to propose a plan of attack:

    1. Beat the snot out of that kid and don't ever let him/her use the PC again. ;)

    2. Determine the video card type using Aida32.

    3. Down load the appropriate drivers, either ATI or Nvidia.

    4. Install the drivers either thru Control Panel > Display > whatever-it-is-in-98 -or- Control Panel > System > Device Manager

    Simple, no?

    [Edit]try zimpal's suggestion 1st

Scroll down the board to his Nvidia thread. He posted the results to a different thread.

I already let him know that he needed to keep his responses confined to the same thread ;)
