    hello..
I got this Toshiba 2435-s255 laptop from my mom 3 months ago, it came in bad condition (missing some driver, shuts down unpredictably, etc). Me and my friend solved the shut down problem ( thanks to Black3!! ) :-D and decided to reinstall it with XP pro sp3. Installation went really slow but finally completed. after installation, we googled around for audio and video controller driver, found it and installed it but nothing changed!!! We looked almost everywhere to find this drivers or is there something that we missed? :confused

please help guys, I really need this laptop!!

    Hi

In device manager what items have yellow ! marks by them? as this would help some way to know if this is a driver issue or as you mentioned this laptop came to you in a bad way it could also be hardware failure.

On the clean install, what software did you install or is this laptop still a vanilla or clean jsut windows install as some 3rd party software can cause issues, especially if you re-installed similar software again.

Unpredictible shutdowns can also be heat issues, so are all air vents clean from dust and fluff?

yellow marked items are: Multimedia controller, Unknown Device, PCI Modem, and Video Controller (VGA Compatible). ooh, i've tried to download and install the audio driver from Realtek and several other websites, but the result in Sound and Audio device properties still says "Device cannot start (code 10)" and shows "No Audio Device"..:confused

I didn't install any 3rd party software. The shutdown problem was caused by clogged heatsink, and we've managed to clean it and now my laptop is running with a cool breeze..

    Attached is my Everest Report..

unknown device and PCI modem.. after i installed the driver (audio and video) it shows no yellow "!" marks, "but i still can't hear any sound and in sound and audio properties still shows "No Audio Device". one of my friend said that i should enable my audio in BIOS, but i don't know how to do that on BIOS (pressing f2 in start-up, right? or?).

thanks guys, i really appreciate it..

    Hi

Did you install the Intel Chipset driver? if not install a slighty updated one from HERE and then reboot and install your Audio driver again.

if this doesnt help with sound then we may need to resort to a trick that Muskesnipe posted a while agon and I will reference this as a quote to save me typing it out.

Modem driver is this one HERE

I've downloaded the chipset driver and installed it.. it detects my multimedia audio controller.. yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy:-D.
when i installed the sound driver, the yellow ! mark is gone in device manager, but it still shows "no audio device" and can't play any sound..???

here's something funny, when i click the link for modem driver it directs me to the support bulletin, and there i saw "sound" with the title says "sound may skip when replaying MP3 files". so i opened it and there i find "audio.zip".. i downloaded it and have it installed, and now it shows "Realtek ac'97" instead of "no audio device".. but :confused i still can't hear any sound from my speaker..:confused..:confused:confused

    any suggestion?

    thanks.

    Hi

Following on from hrlow's post also check in Services (Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services) and make sure the Windows Audio service is Started and startup type is set to Automatic.

In Control Panel > Sound and Audio also check for the correct playback device being used on the Audio tab and in the Sound Playback Default Device dropdown.

    hi..

sorry it takes so long for me to reply..
i've tried everything, but the result still the same.. i can't change the volume because it's grayed (i attached a screen shot of it).. i also did what Halo told me to, but the result is nothing..
ooh when i finished installing the sound driver, i can't shutdown my laptop, it stopped at "Logging off".. is the driver damaged??
