I'm going to post this in the software forum too, since there is more traffic there, but anyway...I need the modem driver for my Toshiba 1625cdt laptop, that is compatible with windows 2000 professional!! Typically this would be no big deal, but I don't want to take the laptop apart just to find out what modem is in it!!! All of the software that came with the computer is for win 98!!

I went into the device manager with my fingers crossed hoping to find out what it is, so I can go online and download it, but it just says "PCI Simple communications device"!! So that wasn't any help!! I surfed the Toshiba site, but came up with nothing!! i would use Everest Home Edition, but will it still recognize it if it is not technically installed??

I'm pretty sure it is a V.90, which obviously tells you it is a dialup modem!!!!

Don't mean to be pushy here but I'm leaving on vacation here in about 1 hour, so any quick responses would be GREATLY appreciated, so I can use it on the road!!!!

Let me know if I missed anything...i'm thinking fast so I might have left out important details!!

If your still there roger and can get to the win98 driver file, type in the file name on google, and check if the pages that come up have a 2000 driver happy trails......!

Actually...I found a driver for it a few months back that was for 2000, but I can't remember what kind of modem it is that i'm shooting for...had it all written down while I was on a trip not too long ago...and stupid me lost all the notes, and again....stupid me procrastinated till today to try to fix it!! When i'm home I just hook into the wireless router, but when I travel I have to utilize the dial up modem!!

If I could just find out what kind of modem it is!! I'm really shocked that windows doesn't have a driver for it, the laptop was from '96 so i would have thought that 2000 would include a generic driver...or maybe if there is some way to find out if 2000 does have a generic driver that will propel the SOB!!!!

Unfortunately the software that came with the laptop is 6 hrs away at my dad's so I can't look up the driver name (don't ask me why...LOL)...already thought of that, but I appreciate the idea!!!!!

    Thanks ahead for any help!!!!

@ rogvalcox: your modem is called a "Conexant SoftK56 Data.Fax Modem" and Toshiba only has Win98 drivers for your laptop. So, it's a good thing that I have OCD when it comes to drivers ;) Simply click this direct link and the download dialog will start w/o being routed to a different site.
I hope it works!!! Keep us posted!!!

To mozza1: do not hijack other member's threads; ALWAYS start your own thread for any problem you are having. You'll get more exposure and more accurate help, and you'll keep confusion to a minimum. So: please read this thread and post again.... but this time start your own new thread :-D
